Senior Environmental Scientist
The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is seeking an Environmental Scientist with a strong background in analytical chemistry and diverse background in best management and technical practices in contaminated site characterization and cleanup.
While this position is part of our Chantilly, VA operations, it is open to remote work, and we welcome all candidates to apply.
Position Summary
The selected candidate will provide advanced analytical chemistry-related and other subject matter expert-level technical support for environmental projects involving federal, tribal, state, local, and domestic and international private clients.
The selected candidate will support environmental projects that involve the planning, implementation and/or review of field investigations (such as soil, sediment, surface water, groundwater, and air sampling and analysis) and other activities associated with site characterization and cleanup. In this capacity, the selected candidate will work collaboratively with teams of scientists, engineers and other technical specialists.
The selected candidate will support advanced data review and the technical writing and/or review of reports.

• Serve as subject matter expert (SME) on independent optimization reviews and technical support.
• Provide technical support at all phases of Superfund / RCRA / Brownfield / UST and other cleanup projects.
• Provide subject matter expertise in analytical chemistry, Superfund best management and technical practices.
• Provide subject matter expertise in the development and/or delivery of training courses.
• Provide support to business development and proposal efforts with US EPA and others, as applicable.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Toxicology, or a related field.
- 25-30 years of professional experience.
- 40 Hour HAZWOPER / 8-Hour Annual Refresher certification
- Applied expertise in planning and implementation of EPA Superfund site cleanup program best management/technical practices, including but not limited to: independent optimization reviews, conceptual site models (CSM, Triad Approach (systematic project planning [SPP], dynamic work strategies [DWS], real-time measurement technologies), high-resolution site characterization (HRSC); 3D data visualization and analysis (3DVA).
- Technical assistance to EPA Regions, States, Tribes, and local governments in Superfund, Brownfields, RCRA, UST, and voluntary cleanup programs (VCP).
- Analytical chemistry, statistical analysis and risk assessment support.
- Ability to assist in the development of, and perform technical review of, work plans, field sampling plans (FSP), quality assurance project plans (QAPP), CSMs, reports, designs, and technical memoranda.
- Ability to coordinate activities and provide direct technical contributions to development and delivery of technical training course materials, case studies, and technical transfer guidance documents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to network and leverage existing / build new relationships with current and potential US EPA clients.
- Support development of business opportunities, including development of capture plans and proposals that are competitively responsive to request for proposals (RFP) or equivalents from desired clients.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to work at a desk / computer in an office and/or home environment for office-based tasks.
• Ability to perform walk-over site visits.
• Ability to perform field work in applied areas of expertise.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors
Mix of in-office work with field work and client site visits.

This position is remote. If candidate is local to an EMI office, they will have access to that office as well.

The Hourly Pay rate for this position is $60.00 - $100.00 an hour, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
