Job Description: Tetra Tech seeks a Resource Efficiency Manager (REM)/energy manager to support the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) in Alaska. As a REM, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive energy management services to help the USCG meet federal sustainability goals, achieve energy, dollar, and greenhouse gas reduction targets.  This position requires on-site presence at the CEU or other USCG facility with travel 30% of the time.

Primary Duties:

  • Develop and implement energy management strategies to support federal sustainability goals.
  • Conduct energy audits and identify energy and water conservation measures.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and execute projects that reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Perform design reviews aimed at enhancing energy efficiency. By scrutinizing architectural and engineering plans, the REM can identify opportunities to optimize energy use and reduce consumption. This involves evaluating building layouts, HVAC systems, insulation, lighting, and the integration of renewable energy sources. The goal is to ensure that designs align with sustainable principles, federal energy efficiency standards, and USCG goals for reducing carbon footprint and enhancing energy resilience.
  • Provide technical expertise in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and distributed generation projects.
  • Support the implementation of Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs) and Utility Energy Service Contracts (UESCs).
  • Analyze energy data and recommend strategies to optimize energy use and reduce costs.
  • Support Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and Sustainable Federal Building Assessments.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation related to energy management initiatives.
  • Conduct training sessions on energy efficiency and sustainability practices.
  • Recommend energy efficient improvements to operations and maintenance.
  • Support construction of energy projects.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in energy management or energy engineering required
  • BS in engineering or energy-related field strongly preferred; equivalent military or civilian experience may be considered.
  • Strong HVAC background with experience in design reviews, energy auditing, project development, life-cycle cost analysis, direct digital controls, energy efficient retro-commissioning, and building/system optimization desired.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) designation required or ability to obtain.
  • Previous experience working at Federal facilities, especially with the Coast Guard, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of utility information systems, energy management technologies, and metering.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel and other applications.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Work Environment: The REM will operate within an office environment at the CEU or other USCG facilities but will frequently conduct field visits to client facility sites. The role involves interacting with both customers and the Tetra Tech Energy Team to achieve energy management objectives. Physical requirements include the ability to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, with light physical work involving significant walking or standing, including walking 2 to 3 miles within a few hours. Climbing ladders, accessing roofs, and navigating narrow mechanical rooms may also be required.

Health and safety play a vital role in our success. Tetra Tech’s employees work together to comply with all applicable health & safety practices and protocols, including any public health orders and regulations that are mandated by local, state, provincial, federal, and international authorities as well as client and project requirements.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $115,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location, as part of a compensation package, including a basic core medical plan and our 401k retirement plan.

Join a Supported REM Team: You’ll collaborate with a dedicated team of 7 REMs, leveraging collective expertise and support to achieve impactful energy management results. Join the REM team of Tetra Tech professionals assisting the USCG in pursuit of reaching goals that include 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030, 100% zero-emissions vehicle fleet by 2045, and net-zero buildings by 2050. These goals are realized as REMs identify opportunities to transition facilities from carbon-based fuels to electrified systems supported by on-site renewable energy and storage. It is an exciting time to work in partnership with the USCG, who leads the Department of Homeland Security in pursuit of these federal goals.

Tetra Tech’s expanding REM program across DOD and DHS ensures you’ll be at the forefront of energy efficiency initiatives nationwide. Contribute to shaping a sustainable future while advancing your career in energy management. Apply today to make a meaningful impact with a global leader in engineering and consulting services.

To apply, please submit your resume and cover letter outlining your relevant experience and qualifications.
