The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is seeking an Electrical Engineer to provide on-site electrical engineering oversight in support of the U.S. Embassy Vienna Selective Improvements Project. The role focuses on ensuring that electrical, telecommunications, fire alarm, fire suppression, and related building systems are installed and executed in accordance with project design documents, U.S. standards, OBO requirements, and contract specifications. The Electrical Engineer will support construction quality assurance, technical reviews, inspections, and coordination activities throughout the project lifecycle.

 

Project Summary:

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) is implementing a Selective Improvements Project at the U.S. Embassy Vienna, Austria. The primary objective of the project is to extend the service life of the existing 11,673 GSM Chancery building until a replacement facility can be constructed. The project includes major upgrades and improvements to accessibility, structural and seismic systems, water and fuel piping, HVAC systems, boilers, smoke exhaust systems, plumbing, telecommunications cabling, fire suppression systems, fire detection systems, security infrastructure, and interior building components.

Tetra Tech provides engineering and construction management support to OBO throughout project execution. The Electrical Engineer will play a critical role in monitoring construction activities, performing technical inspections, reviewing contractor submittals, and ensuring compliance with contract documents and applicable standards. This assignment requires full-time deployment to Vienna and is anticipated to last approximately thirty-six (36) months.  

 

Position Summary:

This 36-month assignment at the U.S. Embassy Vienna requires a seasoned Electrical Engineer with a minimum of seven (7) years of construction experience. The incumbent will provide engineering expertise and quality assurance oversight for electrical systems and associated building infrastructure. Responsibilities include reviewing shop drawings, inspecting construction activities, monitoring contractor performance, evaluating technical compliance, and advising OBO project leadership on electrical engineering matters throughout the Selective Improvements Project.

Responsibilities:

·       Ensure the contractor performs all contract work in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and design documents.  

·       Review construction drawings, engineering calculations, design narratives, and technical documentation.  

·       Review and evaluate electrical engineering shop drawings and contractor submittals for compliance with contract requirements.

·       Perform field inspections of electrical systems, telecommunications infrastructure, and fire alarm installations.  

·       Monitor contractor quality control, quality assurance, and safety programs.

·       Verify that materials and equipment conform to project specifications and approved submittals.

·       Identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, and evaluate contractor-proposed solutions.

·       Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to identify design conflicts and construction issues.

·       Monitor construction progress against the project schedule and provide technical assessments of project status.

·       Prepare weekly progress reports and construction quality assurance documentation.

·       Review design documents prepared by architectural and engineering teams and provide technical feedback as required.

·       Support OBO Project Directors and Construction Managers by providing technical recommendations and engineering solutions.  

·       Perform additional duties as assigned in support of project objectives.

Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a U.S.-accredited institution (ABET or equivalent), required.

·       Minimum of seven (7) years of vertical construction site experience (e.g., embassies, consulates, office buildings, government facilities, institutional facilities, mixed-use developments, hospitals, secure facilities, data centers, or similar projects), required.

·       Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance, required.

·       Professional Engineer (PE) License, preferred.

·       Demonstrated experience with high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems, telecommunications systems, and fire alarm systems.  

·       Strong knowledge of construction quality assurance and inspection processes.

·       Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.  

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·       Strong Microsoft Office proficiency.

·       Overseas construction experience preferred.

·       Familiarity with U.S. government construction programs and OBO project requirements preferred.

·       Experience coordinating across multiple engineering disciplines.
