Electrical Engineer
JOB OVERVIEW:
Congress provided USACE with $17B in supplemental funding through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This combined with a trend of record USACE annual funding appropriations and Emergency Supplemental Disaster Recovery Appropriations for USACE in 3 of the past 5 years totaling over $7B have the nation’s waterways set up for a ten-year program of design and construction.
As an industry leader in USACE Engineering and Design support, Tetra Tech has placed contract capacity and been selected to lead the design of multiple ongoing top priority USACE projects, including rehabilitation of inland navigation lock and dam systems, design of new navigation locks, and coastal protection projects. These projects represent a once in a generation investment in our nation’s waterways. In this position you will work closely with national industry leaders and local experts to support clients with electrical engineering. As an Electrical Engineer in the Bellevue Design Center, you will work closely with national industry leaders and local experts to support clients with electrical engineering. This position offers multiple growth opportunities, in both technical design expertise and project management. Come join our Bellevue design team and be a part of a multi-discipline team working on these signature projects.
Upcoming projects for our electrical engineering group include:
- Ship Canal Facility Electrical Distribution Design: Our team will be designing a new electrical power distribution system for locks that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The project includes evaluating the existing electrical system and design upgrades to replace the aging system with a robust and reliable power distribution system for current and future electrical needs.
- Dam and Reservoir Design: Tetra Tech is performing the 30% design for a new reservoir and four new dams in Colorado. The electrical, instrumentation, and controls elements include preliminary design for electrical systems for inlet works and outlet works facilities, assessment of alternatives for communications, telemetry, and remote-control systems, and preliminary layouts for dam embankment instrumentation and monitoring systems.
- New Lock Final Design: Tetra Tech will be designing a new 1200' lock to be part of the U.S. Inland Waterway Navigation System. Work will include designing electrical power distribution, standby power, lighting and grounding systems for lock facilities, and designing control systems for operation of lock features including gates, valves, and hydraulic power units.
Your Role:
- Design industrial and heavy civil electrical systems including power distribution, emergency power, grounding, lighting, lighting protection, fire alarm, security, closed circuit television, telecommunications, computer network, remote monitoring, and control systems
- Evaluate existing electrical systems and provide design recommendations
- Prepare technical specifications, engineering reports, and calculations
- Perform quality control checks of design submittal documents
- Utilize departmental design standards
- Coordinate system design with other disciplines
- Develop cost estimates for proposed design
- Review shop drawings and product submittals for conformance to contract requirements
- Perform site visits for documentation of existing electrical and control systems
- Visit construction sites to inspect work in progress or completed and to provide solutions to construction problems
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
- 5-15 years of relevant electrical engineering experience
- Active Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes is required
- Project management experience a plus, but not required
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Experience with USACE or other federal or local government agencies preferred, but not required
- Experience with/understanding of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Experience with power analysis software preferred, i.e., SKM, EasyPower, etc.
- Willing to work both independently and in a team environment, both in person and virtual
- Able to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and make independent decisions that promote/advance the company goals and objectives

The salary range for this position is approximately $65,000 to $120,000 depending on education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
