Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a Principal Electrical Building Services Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of electrical engineering solutions across a varied project portfolio in sectors such as life sciences, defence, education, commercial, healthcare and more. You will take ownership of multiple medium-complexity projects or key packages within larger schemes, ensuring delivery aligns with client briefs, programme requirements and industry standards.
You will play a pivotal role in client engagement—building lasting relationships, providing technical advice, and supporting business development. Internally, you will contribute to team leadership, mentoring engineers and supporting resource planning, while maintaining a hands-on approach to design and project execution.

Core Capabilities
Technical Design Excellence: Lead and review detailed electrical designs, calculations, specifications and reports. Deliver compliant, efficient and sustainable solutions across all RIBA stages. Apply industry standards, regulations and best practice confidently
Project & Delivery Leadership: Manage multiple projects or workstreams with minimal supervision. Plan, monitor and report on progress against programme and budget. Take ownership of deliverables and drive projects forward proactively
Digital Engineering & Innovation: Use tools such as Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Dialux, Amtech and NBS effectively. Support digital design coordination within multidisciplinary teams. Embrace innovation in sustainable and energy-efficient design
Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong client relationships and act as a trusted advisor. Collaborate with architects, engineers and contractors. Contribute to bids, fee proposals and business development
People & Team Development: Mentor and support junior engineers. Contribute to team planning and workload management. Promote a collaborative, inclusive and high-performance culture
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Degree-qualified in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent experience), with Chartered status or working towards it. Proven experience leading electrical design across multiple sectors, with strong knowledge of regulations, sustainability principles and digital tools. Effective communicator with experience in multidisciplinary collaboration and project delivery.
Working Environment
This role supports flexible and hybrid working, typically combining office, site and remote work. Expect a collaborative office presence several days per week, balanced with flexibility to manage your workload. Projects are UK-wide, with occasional travel as required.
