Purpose & Scope of the Role
You will deliver BS 5837 surveys, veteran and visual tree assessments, safety and risk surveys, and provide arboricultural advice across residential, defence, energy, transport and government projects. Responsibilities include preparing tree constraints and opportunities plans, management plans, impact assessments and method statements; liaising with local authorities on TPOs and conservation areas; supervising site works; producing fee proposals and tenders; and supporting the Natural Capital team.

Your technical assessments and management advice will directly influence development design, protect valuable trees and habitats, and reduce project risk. You’ll improve project outcomes through clear, evidence‑based reporting, quality assurance and stakeholder engagement, while helping build an effective arboriculture capability across the business.
Five Core Capabilities
- Field Survey & Tree Assessment
- Confidently deliver BS 5837, veteran tree and safety surveys using digital tools and recognised methods.
- Technical Reporting & QA
- Produce concise, defensible reports, tree schedules, management plans and impact assessments with robust quality control.
- Stakeholder Liaison & Regulatory Knowledge
- Engage local authorities, advise on TPOs/Conservation Areas and guide compliance through development processes.
- Project & Site Management
- Supervise site works, prepare competitive fee proposals and manage tasks to time and budget.
- Team Development & Leadership
- Recruit, train and line‑manage staff; foster skills development and support cross‑team collaboration with ecology and natural capital specialists.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Level 4 qualification in arboriculture (QCF) or equivalent. Demonstrable BS 5837 survey and reporting experience, strong tree identification (pests, disease, fungi), line‑management and QA experience. Full UK driving licence.
Working Environment
Flexible hybrid working with regular site visits. Location‑agile role supported by remote systems; expect a mix of field, home and occasional office days to suit projects and client engagement. Flexible hours, reduced or compressed hours considered for the right candidate.
