Wildlife Field Technician (Avian/Bat Fatality Monitoring)
The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding a Wildlife Field Technician to support an avian and bat fatality monitoring program at an operational wind facility near Arlington, Oregon.
This role involves implementing post-construction monitoring protocols, including fatality searches and carcass persistence trials. The position requires a one-year commitment, with fieldwork beginning in June 2026 through May 2027, and potential for extension based on project needs.
Field technicians will work 30–40 hours per week, with occasional overtime, and must be available for 4–5 field days per week.

Project Details:
- Project Duration: June 2026 – May 2027 (1-year commitment)
- Schedule: 4–5 field days per week
- Hours: 30–40 hours/week + occasional overtime
- Travel: Daily travel to/from field site required
- Housing: Employee responsible for housing
- Vehicle: Company vehicle and gas provided for work-related travel
- Stipend: $400/month (first 6 months) for candidates living within 50 miles (e.g., The Dalles, Hermiston)
Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct avian and bat fatality monitoring surveys, including:
- Fatality searches
- Carcass persistence trials
- Follow standardized protocols and maintain accurate data records
- Collect and submit data using electronic data collection systems
- Navigate field sites using GPS, maps, and field equipment
- Work independently or in small teams while maintaining communication with:
- Tetra Tech supervisors
- Site management teams
- Adhere to all health and safety protocols
- Maintain detailed and accurate field notes and data logs
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Additional duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to walk long distances and work in extreme outdoor conditions
- Ability to handle exposure to bird and bat carcasses
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow field protocols
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication skills and professionalism
- Willingness to travel and maintain a flexible schedule
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology, Natural Resources, or related field (not required)
- Prior experience with:
- Bird and/or bat surveys
- Transect-based field research
- Familiarity with regional bird/bat species identification

- Ability to:
- Walk up to 10 miles per day
- Lift and carry 35 lbs. or more
- Perform bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
- Field-based work in remote outdoor environments
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat, wind, precipitation)
- Work on uneven terrain for extended periods
- Interaction with wildlife and biological materials

Compensation:
Pay commensurate with experience.
Pay Range: $20.00-$25.00 hourly
