The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a Wildlife Field Technician to work as an avian fatality monitor near Olympia, Washington. This position supports a post-construction fatality monitoring program at an operational solar facility.

 

Fieldwork is anticipated to begin April 1, 2026, and continue through August 31, 2026, with the possibility of part-time work through October 31, 2026. A full commitment to the primary field season is required.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Implement and support a post-construction avian fatality monitoring program
  • Conduct fatality searches and carcass persistence trials in accordance with standardized protocols
  • Collect accurate field data using electronic data collection tools and GPS units
  • Work independently or in small field crews
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with fellow technicians, offsite Tetra Tech supervisors, and site management
  • Adhere to all facility-specific and Tetra Tech safety protocols
  • Provide own suitable field gear, including reinforced-toed hiking boots and weather-appropriate clothing
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or a related field preferred (not required)
  • Prior field experience preferred
  • Ability to identify avian species endemic to the region
  • Experience executing transect-based research preferred
  • Ability to walk 8–10 miles per day
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong communication skills, positive attitude, and openness to guidance and constructive feedback
  • Experience using GPS units, topographic maps, and other field equipment
  • Experience with 4x4 vehicles preferred
  • Individuals currently pursuing a degree and enthusiastic entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

 

Work Schedule & Logistics:

  • Full field days required throughout the study period
  • Travel time to the field site is compensated for up to 2 hours roundtrip
  • A vehicle will be provided for work-related travel
  • Technicians are responsible for securing their own housing
  • A housing stipend (April 1 – August 31) may be discussed at time of hire based on technician location
  • Preference given to candidates residing in Olympia, WA, or willing to relocate to the area

 

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting/carrying objects up to 35 lbs
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions
  • Prolonged walking and standing on uneven terrain
  • Daily walking requirements of 8–10 miles for the duration of the project

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $20.00-$25.00 hourly
