Transportation Engineer-In-Training

Your Role:
- Assist in managing design and construction of transportation related projects.
- Coordinate and work with staff and subcontractors to ensure cost effective, safe and timely completions of projects to meet or exceed client expectations.
- Prepare technical letters and reviews, reports, quality control documents, memos and other documentation.
- Prepare and maintain quality checks of designs, drawings, specifications, quantity calculations and tender documents.
- Develop, track and maintain project schedules and budgets.
- Assist senior project manager/engineer to engage with clients to define project scope and develop proposals, budget, and project schedule.
- Assist senior project manager/engineer to identify and manage project risks.
- Manage and document change control of Projects.
- Provide support to senior team members to review project expenditure and approve payment of invoices.
- Develop skills to become the prime interface with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Work closely with construction trades in order to manage field activities.
- Undertake contract administration, resident engineering, and construction supervision.
- Work with multiple stakeholders including operations, maintenance, and engineering.
- Assist in managing and coordinating multi-discipline input from different groups.
- Provide clear and concise reporting to different levels of senior management.
- Prepare project drawings specifications, cost estimates, operational plans, schedules and various project deliverables.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- A university degree in civil engineering. Other professional qualifications will be considered with relevant experience.
- Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or registered with APEGA; working toward professional engineering licensure.
- A minimum of 0-3 years of experience in civil engineering in Canada, specifically on transportation related projects and design/project management.
- Availability to travel for work on project sites throughout Alberta.
- Effective communication, organization, and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
- Working experience in the principles and practices of transportation engineering as applied to design and construction of projects.
- Effective interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; able to prioritize tasks and handle multiple assignments.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision while contributing as a reliable team player.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with modeling or traffic software is an asset.
- Experience undertaking construction inspections and reporting is considered an asset.
- Experience in developing project budgets and construction estimates is considered an asset.
- Experience in writing proposals is considered an asset.
