Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a Highway Engineer / Transport Planner, you will support the Development Management Implementation (DMI) team as part of Tetra Tech’s Professional Services Contract with Hertfordshire County Council. Working within a collaborative “One Service” model alongside partners, you will contribute to the delivery of highways and transport services that support sustainable development across the region. This role offers the opportunity to build technical capability through hands-on project work, mentorship from senior colleagues, and exposure to both public and developer-led schemes.

Core Capabilities
Technical Expertise
Experience supporting highway design or transport planning projects within public or private sector developments
Understanding of development-led infrastructure and planning requirements
Design & Digital Proficiency
Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD
Ability to contribute to the preparation of technical drawings and supporting documentation
Analytical & Advisory Skills
Exposure to Transport Assessments and highways documentation for planning applications
Ability to support technical reviews and provide input on development proposals
Communication & Collaboration
Strong communication skills with a collaborative, team-focused approach
Ability to engage with colleagues, stakeholders and developers effectively

Skills, Qualifications & Experience
HNC, HND, Degree or Masters in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning or a related discipline. Some relevant industry experience is required. Membership, or working towards membership, of a professional body such as ICE or CIHT is desirable.
Working Environment
This role supports flexible hybrid working, with a combination of office-based collaboration and home working. You will be part of a Hertfordshire-based team, working closely with colleagues and partners, with flexibility to balance project delivery and personal commitments.
