Telecom Equipment Installer / Repairer-Mid
Position Description
This position supports the Department of State (DoS) Vanguard 2.2.1 Program. The Telecom Equipment Installer position supports the Radio Programs Branch (RPB). The position is responsible for the installation, testing, integration, and maintenance of all two-way radio systems deployed by DoS’s Information Resource Management’s (IRM) Radio Programs Branch, including domestic and overseas posts.
Description of Duties
- Travels worldwide, including high-risk, danger, and war zone locations to perform system installations, maintenance, upgrades (both software and hardware), moves/adds/changes, repairs, surveys, de-installations, telecom equipment.
- Provides installation and maintenance support concerning, documentation, fabrication, wiring and actual installation of communication equipment.
- Assists with the installation of new equipment, or the removal and reinstallation of legacy equipment.
- Provides operational support by operating communication equipment and networking systems at designated locations.
Your Travel Logistics and After Action Activities
- You will travel 6-8 times per year, usually for 2-3 weeks per assignment.
- When you return you will debrief, write your trip report, complete your expense report, and plan for your next trip while supporting other radio techs in the field.
Your Work Schedule
- While in the Springfield, VA office, you will coordinate with the on-site Program Manager to set a flexible work schedule not to exceed 40 hours per week.
- International work schedules may be dictated by the location traveling, but will only exceed 40 hours if approved in writing in advance.
Your Uplifts and Overtime
- Uplifts will vary based on the field location according to State Dept. requirements.
- If necessary and approved in advance, overtime will be paid based on your time worked.

- High school diploma or equivalent working experience.
- Formularization or working knowledge of installation of equipment (telecom preferred).
- Experience working in a customer-facing environment.
Required Experience/Skills/Attributes
- Ability to work independently and without direction to meet deadlines and deliverables.
Desired Experience/Skills/Attributes
- Able to learn quickly on the job
- Working knowledge of IRM’s methodologies regarding the support of all DoS’s Radio infrastructures is a plus.
- Secret (Active) – Interim Secret Clearances will also be considered
Willingness to Travel
Travel % required is up to 50%
