Tetra Tech is adding a Stormwater Engineer to our Mid-Atlantic team. For this role, we are open to hybrid work schedules in our Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina office, or remote work schedules within the Mid-Atlantic region.

Position Summary: 

 

We are seeking a Stormwater Engineer with expertise in stormwater design to join our interdisciplinary team supporting projects in the Mid-Atlantic and nationally. This role offers a unique opportunity to support innovative projects focused on green stormwater infrastructure, water quality and quantity, and community resiliency for municipal, state, and federal clients. 

Essential Job Functions: 

 

The following duties are essential to this role. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. 

 

  • Lead the analysis and design of stormwater infrastructure through the application of quantitative and qualitative evaluation techniques. 

  • Lead the preparation of construction and bid documents, including plans, specifications, cost estimates, and permit applications along with support from our team. 

  • Lead or support municipal stormwater management projects, including flood mitigation, green stormwater infrastructure, climate resiliency, and nutrient pollution reduction. 

  • Perform technical writing assignments to contribute to project documentation and deliverables, including the basis of design memos and modeling reports. 

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure high quality deliverables through quality control and assurance processes. 

  • Support construction administration and observation by conducting site visits, processing submittals and RFIs, and coordinating with contractors and junior staff. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or related field. 

  • An active Professional Engineer (PE) certification in the State of North Carolina (or the ability to gain licensure within six months of hire). 

  • A minimum of 5+ years of professional engineering experience with a strong foundation in stormwater design. 

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D including all tasks associated with plan set development, including grading, detail development, and quantity take-offs for construction documents. Knowledge of MicroStation is a plus. 

  • Demonstrated experience in analysis, design, permitting, and construction management of stormwater management projects. 

  • Demonstrated experience preparing and delivering client presentations, with a focus on municipal or other public-sector clients. 

  • Proven analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through education and professional experience. 

  • Proficiency in the ESRI ArcGIS Pro. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • A master’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or related field. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

 

  • Ability to travel for site visits and construction oversight as needed. Travel is estimated to be up to 10% yearly (occasional overnight travel). 

  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods during inspections, including the ability to walk on uneven terrain. 

  • Ability to kneel, crouch, or stoop when inspecting sites. 

  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in a range of weather conditions (heat, rain, wind, cold) for extended periods of time. 

  • Ability to sit at a workstation and use a computer for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours/day). Additional hours may be required based on project needs. 

  • Manual dexterity to use a computer mouse, keyboard, and other tools. 

  • Visual acuity to read and interpret detailed drawings and technical documents including topographic and site surveys, construction document plan sets, and reports.  

  • Ability to communicate effectively in-person and via electronic means. 

 

Additional Information 

 

  • For this role, we are open to hybrid work schedules in our Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC office, or remote work schedules within the Mid-Atlantic United States region.

  • This position is scheduled for full-time work (40 hours/week) with a typical schedule of 8:00am to 5:00pm (Eastern Time) Monday to Friday. Additional hours may be required based on project needs.
