Staff Geologist/Engineer

 

Position Summary:

Ardaman is seeking a motivated Staff Geologist/Engineer to support environmental, geotechnical, and construction-related projects from our Tallahassee office. This position is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional who is eager to develop technical skills, gain field and office experience, and contribute to a variety of projects under the direction of experienced professionals. The successful candidate will assist with site investigations, data collection, report preparation, and project support activities while learning Ardaman’s procedures, standards, and client service expectations. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop technical expertise, and build a long-term career in consulting and field services.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform field investigations, inspections, and sampling activities related to environmental and/or geotechnical projects.

  • Assist with drilling oversight, monitoring well installation, soil and groundwater sampling, and other subsurface evaluation tasks.

  • Collect, document, and manage field data in accordance with project requirements and quality standards.

  • Assist with data review, interpretation, and preparation of technical reports, figures, and tables.

  • Support senior staff with project coordination, permitting, and regulatory documentation.

  • Travel to local and regional project sites as needed.

  • Follow company safety procedures and participate in health and safety planning for field activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project and office operations.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong interest in fieldwork, data collection, and technical problem-solving.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

  • Ability to travel to project sites and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Internship, co-op, or prior experience in environmental consulting, geotechnical engineering, or related field work.

  • Familiarity with soil, groundwater, and environmental sampling methods.

  • Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, or other technical software.

  • Knowledge of Florida environmental regulations and permitting processes.

  • EIT, FG, or other relevant certification or licensure track.

  • Ability to operate or assist with field equipment and instrumentation.

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.

  • Ability to work outdoors in hot, humid, wet, or otherwise challenging conditions.

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, boots, and respiratory protection when needed.

  • Ability to climb ladders, enter confined or awkward spaces when required and approved, and perform physically demanding field tasks.

  • Ability to drive a company vehicle to project sites.

     

 

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

  • This position involves combination of office and field work. Office duties are performed in a professional setting with typical computer and administrative tasks. Fieldwork may take place at active construction sites, industrial facilities, undeveloped property, or other outdoor locations.

  • Environmental conditions may include exposure to heat, cold, rain, mud, standing water, noise, dust, uneven ground, moving equipment, and other site-related hazards. Work schedules may occasionally require early mornings, extended hours, or overnight travel depending on project needs.
