Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a Principal or Senior Transport Planner, you will be part of a well-established Transport North team delivering a diverse portfolio of development-led projects across the private and public sectors. Working with developers, local authorities and multidisciplinary teams, you will lead and support the preparation of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and Environmental Impact Assessment inputs. The role also includes mentoring junior colleagues, contributing to business development through fee proposals, and maintaining strong client relationships, while staying at the forefront of industry standards and best practice.

Technical Expertise
Strong experience delivering Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and development-related reports
Solid understanding of UK planning processes and highway design principles
Analytical & Problem Solving
Ability to analyse, interpret and present complex data clearly
Methodical approach with strong attention to detail
Digital & Modelling Skills
Proficient in tools such as AutoCAD, GIS, TRICS, TEMPro, Junctions, LinSIG or Transyt
Confident using Microsoft Word and Excel for technical reporting
Communication & Client Engagement
Clear and confident communicator, able to engage with clients and stakeholders
Experience supporting project delivery and contributing to work-winning activities
Collaboration & Leadership
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Degree or Masters in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or a related field. Working towards or holding professional accreditation (e.g. CIHT, CILT, TPP or ICE) is desirable. Proven UK consultancy experience in transport planning is essential.
Working Environment
This role is based in either Newcastle or Leeds, with hybrid working available. You can expect a balance of office and home working, alongside site visits and client meetings as required. Flexible working arrangements are supported.
