Your Role:

This position provides engineering support for pipeline, pump station, and terminal/tank projects nationwide. A successful candidate will bring design engineering and technical expertise to a team of established engineering consultants with a proven track record in the Oil & Gas Industry.

You will participate in a multi-disciplinary project team in a lead role.

  • Performs duties under general direction of the project lead. 

  • Communicates and coordinates with client leads and/or project manager.

  • Shows proven sound judgment and initiative in the interpretation of industry standards and client standards, and in the planning and execution of important projects.

  • Assigns and reviews the work of subordinate engineers and project support staff.

  • Makes decisions and recommendations on technical matters related to the scope, schedule and overall cost of the project.

  • Reliable, punctual and available to support the needs of the project, including meetings with other times zones.

  • Develops and recommends improvements in design standards and design workflows.

  • Pipe routing and overall facility site layout.

  • Process Flow Diagram (PFD) and P&ID Development.

  • Development of project design drawings including 30%, 60%, 90% and Issued for Bid (IFB) and Issued for Construction (IFC)

  • Hydraulic calculations, line sizing, pipe material grade and wall thickness selection, and Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) calculations

  • Develop detailed designs of pipelines, compressor/pump stations, and other facilities-related projects.

  • Detailed engineering and design for both greenfield sites and the upgrade, modification, and expansion of existing infrastructure (brownfield).

  • Conducting field investigations and gathering applicable data to support the project design

  • Oversees equipment specification and sizing, including pumps, motors, metering, sampling, storage tanks, relief valves, pipe, valves, and fittings.

  • Lead and/or participate in internal design reviews and client design reviews.

  • Development of project scopes of work, engineering design basis documentation, and construction bid packages.

  • Coordination and expediting, as necessary, for project procurement activities, including the review and approval of equipment and material engineering specifications and technical data sheets, Request for Quotation (“RFQ”) and Request for Purchase (“RFP”) packages, coordinating responses to vendor clarification requests, evaluating vendor proposals, and overseeing the selection of equipment and materials that meets the project design requirements.

  • Incorporate compliance and permitting inputs into project designs.

  • TIC Cost estimating.

  • Schedule development.

  • May be required to seal engineering drawings as the engineer of record.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in ABET accredited Engineering program (5-15+ years of relevant experience).

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) preferred.

  • PE licensure preferred, or willingness and ability to attain PE licensure.

  • NCEES record preferred or willingness to attain. 

  • Experience in the Midstream Oil & Gas industry preferred.

  • Strong understanding of applicable engineering standards (ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, etc.) and Industry standards and regulations (CFR 192 and CFR 195, NACE, etc.).

  • Experience coordinating with client stakeholders subject matter experts (SME’s) and offsite team members.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to dissect problems and quickly develop solutions.

  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Access.

  • Willingness to travel to meet project needs for on site data gathering or in-person meetings

  • Experience with hydraulic modeling preferred. 

  • Experience with pipe stress modeling preferred. 

  • Experience with AutoDesk software or other 3D design platforms preferred.

  • Experience with scheduling software, cost estimating software/spreadsheets preferred. 

  • A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions. 

 

Target salary range: $100,000 to $140,000. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.

Physical Requirements:

  • Required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms

  • Use hands to keyboard or type, handle materials, or manipulate objects

  • Light work that includes lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds and, occasionally, up to 50 pounds 

  • Frequently moving about to accomplish tasks.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this classification include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing abilities required by this classification includes those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in-person and by telephone.

  • Requires composure and ability to prioritize and handle several urgent tasks and requests simultaneously with a high level of competence and accuracy

  • Occasionally climbing stairs and ladders at active oil & gas facilities.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

Environmental factors mostly consist of work being conducted in an indoor office environment, but is not limited to extreme temperatures (e.g., cold, heat), fumes, variable weather conditions, outdoor work, and noise due to some travel & work at operating client facilities and active construction sites.

  • This position is an in-office position

  • Travel: Up to 25%, but will vary project to project, year to year and likely be much less at times.
