Senior Operations Director
Anticipated responsibilities for the Senior Operations Director of the Portland Office include:
• Manage business development in current and future business lines
• Manage project implementation and management
• Supervise office personnel
• Manage business unit employee relations, coordinate with SWW Management team, as appropriate
• Assist with workload, resource leveling decisions for the Portland office and the West Region
• Provide effective communications across the West Region (manage or co-manage region meeting or conference calls)
• Develop and implement business plans for the office/area – in coordination with the West Region plan
• Provide input on West Region budgets (training, BD, conferences)
• Oversee resolution of AR, unbilled, write-offs for business unit
• Business development/forecasting (help set direction/focus for West Region)
• Workload resource leveling decisions within the West Region
• Go/No-Go and review of proposals (within authorized limits)
• Participate in recruiting efforts
• Provide recommendations and implement region staffing plans – work with West Region Vice President and President
• Provide input on salary increases, bonus recommendations
• Approve non-billable company purchases
• Develop, implement and coordinate client and lead development plans
• Client meetings (e.g., review, new work, strategy, etc.)
• Project deliverable review
• Senior project involvement (strategy, QA/QC)
An ideal candidate would possess the following qualities and experience:
- ***Previous experience with the solid waste and/or renewable energy industries required
• Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in engineering or science discipline and typically 15+ years’ experience.
• Professional registration or certification is preferred and may be mandatory in certain instances.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
• Ability to effectively write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
• Excellent overall communication skills.
• To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, scheduling, and accounting software.
• CAD or GIS skills a plus.
• Must obtain/maintain OSHA HAZWOPER certification per company policy and job duties.
• Ability to supervise technical and support staff in an office and to provide leadership and mentoring to professional personnel.
• Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
• Supervisory responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
