Seasonal Ecologists
Spend your season outdoors, sharpen your ecological survey skills and join Tetra Tech’s national ecology team. We’re recruiting seasonal surveyors across the UK — a hands‑on opportunity to work with experienced ecologists on real projects that protect wildlife and inform sustainable development.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a Seasonal Surveyor you will support experienced ecologists in delivering habitat and protected‑species surveys across a variety of UK locations. Tasks include nocturnal and diurnal surveys for bats, reptiles, amphibians, otters, barn owls and other species, data capture, basic site assessments and contributing to field records and survey equipment care. You will work across public and private sector projects, following established survey protocols and health & safety guidance.
Your Impact in this position
Your fieldwork will provide the evidence base for ecological assessments, licence applications and mitigation design. Accurate survey data you gather will directly influence planning decisions and conservation outcomes. You’ll gain practical experience, build professional networks and develop consultancy skills that support long‑term career progression.
Core Capabilities
- Field Surveying: Deliver repeatable, standardised habitat and species surveys with attention to protocol and welfare.
- Data Capture & Reporting: Record accurate observations, maintain survey logs and support reporting by senior ecologists.
- Species Awareness & Handling Support: Apply species identification skills and assist with licensed work under supervision (where authorised).
- Communication & Teamwork: Coordinate with ecologists, clients and landowners; communicate findings clearly and professionally.
- Flexibility & Resilience: Work evenings/mornings and adapt to weather, remote sites and changing field schedules.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
Understanding of ecological survey principles; previous field experience advantageous but not essential. Good written and verbal communication. Valid UK driving licence required. Willingness to learn on the job and follow health & safety and welfare procedures.
Working Environment
Multiple UK locations — state your preferred location on application (Manchester, Cumbria, Newcastle, Leeds, Leicester, Birmingham, London, Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff, Scotland, Northern Ireland).
