Sagebrush Habitat Specialist - WY
Required Qualifications:
PhD in Restoration Ecology, Rangeland Ecology, Botany, Ecology, Soil Science or related field.
15+ years of relevant work experience.
Attention to detail, ability to work independently, willingness to work as part of team and take on leadership positions, when needed.
Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and enjoy working outdoors.
Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and technical reports.
Strong skills and proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft-based software, including MS Excel for data analysis and MS Word for report preparation.
Strong problem solving, time management, and written and verbal communication skills.
A strong background in sagebrush habitat within the Intermountain West — proven by applied research on sage-grouse and sagebrush ecosystems.
Understanding of ecology and sagebrush habitat restoration.
A Pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required.
Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge and/or experience with botanical and soil surveys and a variety of vegetation sampling techniques such as line intercept a plus.
First Aid/CPR certification a plus.
Wilderness First Aid a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 pounds.
Ability to travel and perform field work/oversight (approx. < 25% of travel required).
Ability to walk across variable terrain, including uneven ground, in all weather conditions (hot/cold temperatures <40 degrees or >95 degrees, loud noises, heavy equipment, etc.) for field work and oversight.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
Extended computer work for data compilation, statistical analysis, reporting writing, presentations, etc. will include frequent periods of sitting or standing.
Field work will include work to be performed outside, as a result will include working in various environmental factors (weather, altitude, terrain, noise, etc.). This can include remaining stationary for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting, and sitting for site assessments, field inspections, oversight, and other field activities.
Regular interaction with private landowners, contractors, regulators, and conservation groups which will require clear communication, diplomacy, and occasionally conflict management.
Additional Information:
Part-time temporary position, no scheduled hours. Hours will vary based on project/client needs.
