The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a Project Management Associate to our Transportation team based in Waterloo, ON.

Currently remote within the Waterloo area — candidate must live locally and attend occasional in-person meetings. As our client and project portfolio grows, we expect to open a Waterloo office and transition this role to primarily on-site.

We’re looking for a motivated, analytical Project Management Associate to support the VP and Senior Project Manager on large civil engineering and transportation asset-management projects. You’ll help define scopes, build task schedules and resource plans, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, support proposals and business development, and track risks and deliverables. This role offers hands on exposure to the full project lifecycle, mentorship, and rapid growth opportunities in infrastructure project management.



Your Role:

  • Project delivery support
    • Coordinate day-to-day project activities to keep work on scope, schedule, and budget.
    • Set up and maintain Teams channels and Planner boards to track tasks and milestones.
    • Track action items, risks, decisions, dependencies, and critical dates across projects.
    • Follow up with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely completion.
    • Convert technical discussions into detailed task-level scopes, deliverables, assumptions, and exclusions.
    • Produce preliminary schedules and resource/level-of-effort estimates; update plans as requirements evolve.
    • Help improve and standardize project delivery processes and tools.
  • Executive & strategic support
    • Create concise meeting summaries capturing decisions, risks, and next steps.
    • Turn unstructured discussions into organized execution plans and templates.
    • Prepare executive-ready briefs, presentations, and decision-support materials.
    • Anticipate follow-ups and documentation needs to keep initiatives moving.
    • Develop and maintain reusable scopes, schedules, tracking, and reporting templates.
  • Business development support
    • Evaluate opportunities and coordinate technical inputs to align with pursuit objectives.
    • Perform targeted background research to inform scope and technical positioning.
    • Prepare and format technical and financial pursuit materials to professional standards.
    • Maintain and refine standardized pursuit workflows, templates, and tracking systems.

 

Qualifications:

  • 3–6 years in engineering consulting, civil infrastructure, transportation, construction, or similar project-based work.
  • Proven ability to organize complex information into clear scopes, plans, schedules, and tracking systems.
  • Strong written communication for technical documents and executive briefs.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Planner; able to build and manage tracking systems independently.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and tracking action items across concurrent projects.
  • Analytical problem-solver who identifies dependencies, risks, and execution gaps.
  • Self-directed with high accountability and reliable follow-through in remote settings.
  • Professional maturity and sound judgment; comfortable interacting with technical staff and senior leaders.
  • Experience with civil engineering or transportation asset-management projects (considered an asset).
  • Involvement in proposal development and submission for engineering/consulting pursuits (considered an asset).
  • Skilled at task breakdowns, preliminary scheduling, and level-of-effort estimates (considered an asset).
  • Familiarity with project budgeting and basic cost-estimating (considered an asset).
  • PMP certification or progress toward PMP (considered an asset).
