Tetra Tech is seeking a Project Land Surveyor to support our water infrastructure group in the Bay Area. The successful candidate will support surveying/mapping, GIS, and Civil Engineering activities on a broad range of projects.  

Summary:

The Project Land Surveyor will be working with office and field personnel and will be responsible for conducting various types of survey functions, including but not limited to: coordinating field survey crews, maintaining necessary survey equipment, collecting necessary survey data for a varied range of projects, boundary resolution, and other cadastral-related tasks. The ideal candidate should be familiar with all aspects of boundary surveys, ALTA/ACSM Land Title surveys, topographic surveys, photo control, construction stakeout, laser scanning, and as-built survey techniques. Familiarity with the acquisition of data through emerging technology, such as Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Laser Scanning, and the ability to process such data is desirable. A valid California State driver’s license is required. The position requires occasional travel and can be physically demanding. The candidate must also demonstrate strong skills in technical writing and verbal communication.  

Other essential duties and responsibilities will include:  

  • Collect survey data as required in accordance with industry and client specifications, scopes of work, and work plans.  
  • Willing and able to continually learn new techniques and processes as well as operate various types of equipment to become more efficient.  
  • Provide technical assistance for CADD operators, design staff,  and coordinate site visits with project team personnel.  
  • Mentorship and training of junior survey staff.  
  • Work with various technical disciplines as needed.
  • Strong AutoCAD Civil3D knowledge.

 

  • 8+ years of experience in land surveying for a variety of applications, including boundary determinations, topographic surveys, utility surveys, and legal descriptions.
  • California Professional Land Surveyor License (PLS) required (out-of-state PLS with the ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or other closely related field of study
  • Familiarity with using electronic instruments, field data collectors, GPS, and robotic instruments.
  • Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) and other land development software to interpret and present information.
  • Ability to prioritize and make decisions independently in a fast-paced production environment and handle complex issues/problems.
  • Desire to grow the survey group and survey practice in California through developing new clients and new lines of business. This should include a focus on use new technologies and working with other disciplines.
  • Ability to manage performance of Survey team members and handle personnel issues as appropriate or needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position may require protracted or irregular hours depending on the season.
  • Traverse over rough terrain, and constantly position oneself to operate miscellaneous survey equipment.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend ladders into trenches or onto roofs when inspecting construction and land development sites.
  • May be subject to exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions, hazardous materials and chemicals, heavy construction equipment, confined spaces, heights, and air and waterborne pathogens.
  • May handle and move items up to 50 pounds for various needs.

Salary Range: $105,000-$130,000, depending on experience
