Project Accountant - Sacramento
The Opportunity:
Glumac, a Tetra Tech Company, is hiring a Project Accountant to join a fast-paced project finance team supporting engineering and construction projects in the AEC industry. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on meeting tight deadlines, explains project financials clearly, and partners closely with Project Managers to keep projects profitable and compliant. You’ll play a central role in billing, project setup, month-end reporting, and helping resolve client and internal questions about project financials.
Position Summary:
As Project Accountant you will own project setup and billing processes from contract review through invoicing and collections. You will prepare and analyze project billing and AR reports, produce invoices, support month-end close, and participate in monthly finance/PM meetings to explain project performance and resolve issues. Success looks like consistent on-time billing, accurate financial explanations to PMs, and being a proactive team player.
Essential Job Functions:

• Set up projects/ASEs in accordance with contract terms and company policy; confirm billing terms at project startup.
• Produce and review client invoices, credit/debit memos; ensure documentation supports billings and lien/release requirements.
• Prepare, review, and deliver project and AR billing reports; respond to month-end project finance questions.
• Track direct and reimbursable expenses; maintain accounting records and project files.
• Work with PMs in monthly meetings to explain project financials, identify variances, and drive corrective actions.
• Support period-end closing activities and assist collections efforts when needed.
Required Qualifications:
• 3–5 years of project accounting experience in the A/E/C or related industry (project billing and project financials required).
• Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals; ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial data and contract terms.
• Proven experience producing invoices, setting up projects, and handling reimbursement and AR processes.
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort with MS Office (Word, Outlook, Teams).
• Demonstrated time management, critical thinking, and ability to meet complex deadlines while collaborating on a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience with Deltek Vision or other project accounting/PM systems.
• Associate’s degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in construction, architecture, or engineering environments.
Work Environment and Location:
This position offers a hybrid work environment, with a requirement of two in-office days per week in our Sacramento/Folsom office. All candidates must be located in and eligible to work in the U.S.
Compensation:
Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000 (depending on experience)
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the compensation scale for this role. Actual salaries will be determined based on location, experience, responsibilities, and qualifications.
