The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is looking for a fill-time mid-level Principal Investigator for Archaeology based in Bloomington, MN. 

 

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support and lead proposal developments, organize and lead archaeological fieldwork as part of a team or individually, draft reports, make eligibility determinations, and coordinate with state or federal agencies.  Fieldwork will be conducted in the Midwest, Upper Midwest, and Northern Great Plains.

 

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:

  • Lead fieldwork and instruct junior staff on field methodologies.
  • Ability to use ArcGIS, ArcPro, Survey123, and FieldMaps, or equivalent programs.
  • Draft technical reports within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Draft proposals including technical approaches and cost estimating and support the expansion of cultural resources services.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in archaeology or anthropology with focus on archaeology.

  • Minimum 4-10 years of relevant experience.

     

  • Fieldwork, reporting, and agency coordination with a State Historic Preservation Office(s) or Federal Agency(s) in the past 2 years.
  • Previous experience drafting proposals for technical reports.
  • Experience leading cultural survey efforts.
  • Experience with Midwest and/or Great Plains Archaeology.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work on tasks as part of a larger project team. 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills (both written and verbal). 
  • This position requires preparation of technical environmental reports. Strong technical writing skills. 

     

  • Highly motivated, client focused, and work well in a team environment

In addition:

  • Driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.  

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Development of ESRI Survey123 forms and ability develop ESRI Fieldmaps and upload to tablets.
  • Ability to generate figures in ESRI ArcPro.
  • Familiarity with lithics and raw materials.
  • Familiarity with historic artifacts.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Walk around project sites in all types of terrains for up to 10-15 miles per day.
  • Ability to carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment such as maps, shovels, GPS unit, field screening equipment and cameras during field work.
  • Ability to excavate shovel tests, and screen materials.

 

Work Environment / Environmental Factors

  • Field activities take place in a variety of weather conditions and can occur in remote locations, including areas of uneven terrain. 

  • The work environmental will consist of both office and field work.

  • Office work may be 50% of the time but varies based on the season and workload.

  • Fieldwork may require overnight stays and may occur in all seasons.

     

 

Additional Information

  • This full-time position typically requires approximately less than 50% travel.

  • Office work schedule is Monday - Friday.

  • Travel requirements will include multi-day field projects out of town requiring overnight stays and day-long projects.

  • Travel requirements may include weekends.

  • Out-of-town field efforts range from 5 to 10 days but can be up to 12 days.

  • Typical break between mobilizations is 2 to 4 days, depending on duration of field efforts.

  • Must be able to drive on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.

The Salary Range for this position is $56,000 - $90,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
