We are currently seeking a Principal Air Quality and Sustainability Consultant (Consultant) with high-level expertise in developing solutions to regulatory requirements and industrial process inefficiencies and for client initiatives. The Consultant responsibilities include developing and managing a diverse team of technical specialists, building client relationships, integrating the air sustainability practice and service offerings into the existing Tetra Tech global team and portfolio of clients, and implementing programs and projects.
The position location is flexible but involves some travel to meet with Tetra Tech operations and clients. The Consultant will provide program management and strategic leadership to facilitate growth of Tetra Tech’s air quality and sustainability practice and team and integrate where opportunities present themselves as a part of technical services offered by Tetra Tech across our global footprint.
The successful candidate will work with Tetra Tech account managers on existing accounts in our Key Account Program and work to develop new or existing accounts to a key account level. The position is an integral part of Tetra Tech’s goal of establishing a company-wide, multi-disciplinary leadership team providing environmental, social and governance (ESG) sustainability solutions to our commercial clients. Specifically, this position will serve as a component in the ESG leadership team by leading an air quality and carbon net-zero sustainability technical team providing industry leading and recognized services. The Consultant will collaborate with our clients to assist them in assessing and implementing regulatory driven requirements and developing net-zero commitments and science-based targets, deepening existing commitments, and achieving ambitious goals for existing programs and developing new programs. Identifying vertically integrated and cross discipline solutions to assist clients in attaining their goals utilizing Tetra Tech’s diverse group of scientists, engineers, planners, and strategists is a key position responsibility.
Responsibilities:
· Rapidly integrate yourself into Tetra Tech to understand and leverage Tetra Tech’s diverse resources and service offerings in your associated practice areas.
· Collaborate with operations and technical-focused team members to advance business development, program and project implementation, and practice area strategies and goals.
· Provide senior leadership support to Tetra Tech’s air quality and sustainability practice focusing on your area of expertise.
· Leadership support includes a focus on developing in the Tetra Tech family your technical specialty, business strategy, client engagement, opportunity identification and pursuit, operational support, and team member education and mentoring.
· Build, lead, and mentor a diverse team of existing and future air quality and related sustainability technical specialists across your home operating unit in Tetra Tech. With team growth, delegate appropriate duties to team members allowing you to grow in your career and leadership responsibilities.
· Focus on practice area growth and success, quality assurance reviews, and involvement in complex projects for challenging clients.
· Participate in Tetra Tech’s Key Account Management Program, industry initiatives, and air quality and sustainability strategy groups.
· Provide input on how to advance existing initiatives and strategy groups and lead the building of focus groups where deficiencies are identified.
· Serve as the Senior Account Lead for one or more client accounts identified as strategic pursuits. Meet client needs and provide high value services.
· Provided services should result in client’s desire to continue and grow business relationship with Tetra Tech.
· Actively participate with local, regional, and global project teams to develop strategic client and opportunity capture plans and successfully implement those plans.
· Work to be identified internally as the go-to team for air quality and sustainability services within Tetra Tech, particularly involving the synthesis of the air and sustainability practices.
· Work with Tetra Tech’s global air quality and sustainability team members to perform comprehensive analysis of account potential, market share, and remaining winnable opportunities.
· Other activities will include RFP management, proposal preparation, contract negotiation, and project implementation.
· Engage and retain relationships with commercial industrial, financial, law and energy firms, and private equity and other investment groups to facilitate opportunity generation.
· Capitalize on industry relationships/expertise/professional network to maintain and establish new relationships and ensure they are managed for growth under the Key Client Program.
· Attend and participate in sustainability related events to promote Tetra Tech’s expertise to the marketplace.
· Manage sustainability advisory projects and ensure vertically integrated/cross discipline projects resulting from advisory services are being performed to Tetra Tech’s project management standards and the mutually defined Air Quality and Sustainability Program goals and objectives.
· Attract and assist in recruiting key talent who fit with Tetra Tech’s entrepreneurial culture and team approach.
Requirements and Preferred Experience:
· 15 years of program/project management direct experience in the air quality and sustainability practice areas.
· Expertise in developing Prevention of Deterioration (PSD) air permit applications and Title V permit applications for large industrial and energy facilities and processes and in developing State Implementation Plans (SIPs).
· Expertise in carbon accounting at industrial facilities, their reporting requirements and potential for carbon capture and leveraging for clients benefit in the voluntary carbon credit market. Expertise in developing permitting strategies and/or policies for related environmental justice (EJ) permitting programs.
· Must have a solid understanding of air quality and its relationship to the sustainability and EJ markets including market trends and potential, competition, clients, forecasting, and capture strategy.
· Dynamic, self-starter with successful experience with operational and program-level leadership, business development, and strategic planning for the commercial, industrial, and governmental market sectors.
· Direct proven account portfolio operational leadership supporting and mentoring account managers and teams in building relationships, account size and value of the account.
· Strong network of clients and long-standing established relationships.
· Ability to delegate project and operation tasks to more junior team members to effectively utilize candidate’s strengths is essential.
· Demonstrated experience in managing project and group finances with strong profitability.
· Skilled in oral and written communication with demonstrated ability developing and delivering effective presentations to customers and management.
· A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.
· Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Education Requirements:
· B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
· Licensure at a Professional Engineer in a State in the U.S. and the ability to obtain licensure in other states through reciprocity.
