Power System Expert

Project Summary
Tetra Tech provides energy expertise and related technical and investment implementation support to clients in Europe and Eurasia focusing on enhancing the resilience, reliability, affordability, and security of the energy and power generation sectors. Our activities include assignments across the region, that cover technical and economic analyses, feasibility and market studies, sector reform, technical due diligence, tendering, supervision, project implementation support. Our international work involves complex projects and coordination of multidisciplinary teams.
Position Summary
Tetra Tech seeks an experienced energy expert to support growth and diversification as well as project-based assignments in the electricity sector across Europe and Eurasia. You will work as part of multidisciplinary teams delivering diverse international projects, with opportunities to contribute to technical leadership, coordinate workstreams, and support team management on complex assignments. Interested candidates must be based in and eligible to work in Germany or remotely in the country of residence in Europe. This position is full-time, and hiring is contingent upon client approval.
Essential Job Functions
Support the delivery and management of a portfolio of Tetra Tech ES projects, and contribute to our diversification efforts, with a focus on
Europe & Eurasia in line with the overall global growth strategy.
- Lead power system and energy modelling work to support decision making over energy markets and infrastructure development across the portfolio.
- Support existing projects in our portfolio as well as other global pursuits and technical delivery, particularly in relation to generation adequacy and market modelling taking into account different market design features, cross-border exchange requirements, energy storage and other flexibility requirements.
- Cooperate closely with other Tetra Tech operating units in Europe, with a view to collaborating on new opportunities and approaches to new clients.
- Interact directly with clients under the supervision of a senior team member; work as part of a team on complex assignment projects.
- Support business development activities by developing proposals and responding to RfPs in the energy sector with a focus on electricity systems but including other energy assignments
- Raise Tetra Tech ES’ profile in the market through outreach and knowledge sharing on global emerging practices related to the energy transition and evolving technologies
- Represent Tetra Tech ES as a thought leader at conferences, webinars and on social media platforms.

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering, economics, or a related field
- Minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience in the energy sector, in areas such as electricity markets, market design, energy market regulation, energy economics, and/or power systems operation
- Solid understanding of energy system design principles and their business, economic and technical implications
- Understanding of the European energy market, and related regulatory framework (energy acquis).
- History of working in power system demand forecast, scenario development, cost-benefit analysis dispatch and generation adequacy, preferably at large, interconnected power systems, with a deep understanding of renewable energy intermittency impacts, reserves dimension, ramping analysis and energy storage technologies integration.
- Experience in navigating through the regulatory environment of the energy sector and understanding the implications for key stakeholders involved.
- Experience in working within large teams from diverse backgrounds and skill sets
- Strong organization/analytical skills; experience working with detailed technical data and reports
- Good writing and communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information and deliver verbal and written messages effectively
- Fluency (speaking, listening, writing, reading) in English
- Advanced proficiency in MS Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Willingness to travel internationally to project locations and conferences
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with energy system modelling software (e.g. PyPSA, Plexos, PSS/E, PowerFactory)
- Experience with the Eastern European, Western Balkans and/or Central Asian energy sector
- Experience in working for consulting, government or energy firms, preferably to include MDBs or donors
- Oral and written communication skills in French, Russian and/or Ukrainian
Physical Requirements
- Frequently remain in a stationary position sitting or standing at a desk

Additional Information
- Employment type: This is a fulltime position
- Work schedule: Monday – Friday, standard core business hours (8:30 AM – 5:30 PM local time); some flexibility required to overlap core business hours for team collaboration and occasionally overlap with United States eastern standard time business hours
- Work location: This position is fully remote with occasional in person team meetings or corporate events (all arrangements subject to review and may change at the company’s discretion)
- Travel requirements: Periodic international and/or regional travel may be required (including air travel, during which the employee may be required to remain seated for extended periods of time), including to conflict zones or areas with extreme temperatures
