We have an immediate opportunity for a network administration resource to support our contract the City of San Diego. The role is responsible for installing, maintaining and upgrading any software or hardware required to efficiently run a computer network. The network may extend to a local area network, wide area network, the Internet and intranets. The successful candidate will have a thorough familiarity of and experience with network configuration. The position will be based in San Dieto; candidate must be within driving distance of San Diego.

The Network Administrator has the ability and willingness to respond to network trouble calls at a facility when needed, including late hours and weekends. They are adaptable and flexible, functioning effectively when under pressure and/or experiencing rapidly changing or uncertain conditions, with an openness to new ways of doing things. There is an emphasis on satisfying external and internal customers by setting challenging goals, focusing effort on the goals, and meeting or exceeding them. Analytical thinking and strong verbal and written communication skills are a must. 

 

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Support the problem, defect, and incident management processes for seamless Network operations
  • Support in delivering evidence of Network compliance to audit requests
  • Develop and measure performance and functional metrics for all Network services
  • Troubleshoot problems, configure hardware and software, implement back up processes and assess systems for upgrades or replacement
  • Support rollout of new systems/software and enhancements to current systems
  • Ensure a high level of network availability and security
  • Participate in documenting and improving network equipment and configuration 
  • Develop training materials and procedures as required
  • Liaise with external contracts (software, hardware vendors/suppliers) regarding network issues

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

3-7 years of experience with the following:

  • Cisco ASA firewalls, Cisco Switches, and routers
  • Fiber optics
  • TCP/IP and Ethernet
  • Domain Name System (DNS)
  • Latest Microsoft Windows and Server Software & Operating Systems
  • Backup and disaster recovery systems
  • Knowledge of OSI network model

Extra consideration will be given to candidates with the following skills:

3-7 years of experience desired in the following areas:

  • Scripting languages such as PERL and BASH
  • Mission-critical/ "real time" control systems
  • Red Hat Linux
  • Cisco Networking Hardware Programming and Configuration
  • Experience in operational technology environments
  • Windows Server and workstation operating systems
  • Microsoft Active Directory
  • Anti-virus systems

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences, or similar field
  • Formal education in networking principals and engineering
  • Network Certification desired
  • Cybersecurity Certification a plus
    Desirable Cybersecurity Certifications:
    • Cisco Certifications in networking professionals - CCNA + Security, CCDA, CCNP, CCIE
    • Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP), GIAC Response and Industrial Defense (GRID), Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP)
    • GIAC Penetration Tester (GPEN), GIAC Certified Penetration Tester (GPEN), GIAC Security Leadership Certification (GSLC), GIAC Security Expert (GSE), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Cyber Forensics Professional (CCFP), Certified Information Security manager (CISM)
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
