This role will require daily interaction with NASA personnel, and support natural and cultural resources management and compliance activities.

Responsibilities:

•    Conduct environmental due diligence for real property actions (i.e., Phase I Environmental Site Assessments).
•    Support the natural and cultural resources program, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and policies related to environmental stewardship, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
•    Support biological assessments and cultural resource evaluations to support project planning and compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
•    Develop and maintain documentation for natural and cultural resources management, including reports, permits, and compliance records.
•    Coordinate with project proponents to gather necessary information for environmental reviews and assessments, including consultations with relevant stakeholders and agencies.
•    Support habitat management initiatives, including the identification and protection of threatened and endangered species and their habitats.
•    Collaborate with cultural resource specialists to ensure compliance with cultural resource management laws and policies, including the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).
•    Conduct surveys and field assessments to identify natural and cultural resources and assess potential impacts from proposed projects.
•    Provide training and outreach to staff and stakeholders on natural and cultural resource management practices and compliance requirements.
•    Participate in community of practice or working group meetings to facilitate discussions on natural and cultural resource management issues.
•    Stay informed of changes in regulations and best practices related to natural and cultural resources management, and NEPA.
 

 

 Qualifications:

•    Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science or related field is required
•    8+ years of direct experience with natural and/or cultural resources management is required
•    In-depth knowledge of natural and/or cultural resource management regulations, and NEPA is essential.
•    Knowledge of NASA environmental guidelines, systems, and processes is preferred
•    NEPA training and relevant certifications in natural and/or cultural resources management are preferred.
•    Must possess a valid driver’s license.

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

Background Check: this position requires a CAC card, CUI Enclave Access and/or a Security Clearance, a background check will be completed.

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and perform activities that could potentially require the following: performing strenuous fieldwork under a variety of site and weather conditions; standing, crouching, and sitting to support coordination of hazardous waste management tasks, lifting and/or moving items weighing greater than 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Language & Communication Skills:.
•    Candidate must speak, read and understand the English language. 
•    Candidate must have technical writing experience. 
•    Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting reports and projects.

Other Skills: Instructions: 
Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Office 365 products.  Experience with NASA data management system is preferred.
