Mid-Level Watershed Scientist
Qualifications:
(1) Expertise in:
a. Federal and State water quality regulations, State stormwater permits, and compliance programs
b. Stormwater BMP selection, siting, and performance evaluation
c. Using field instrumentation (e.g., water quality meters, GPS, velocity meters)
d. Conducting inspections and sampling
(2) Excellent technical writing, data management, and analytical skills
(3) Public speaking and verbal communication skills.
(4) Ability to work independently and lead field teams
(5) Organizational and time-management skills
(6) Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (i.e., without restrictions)
Other Highly Desirable Knowledge and Experience (please highlight any of the following skill sets in your resume):
o Professional stormwater licensure (e.g., QSD/QSP, QISP, CPESC, CPSWQ)
o Experience with GIS and environmental data visualization
o Use of statistical software
Essential Education and Experience:
• B.A. or B.S. degree in an applicable scientific field, such as Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Natural Resources, Watershed Management, Soil Science, Geology, Ecology, or similar
• Minimum of 5 years of highly relevant experience
The salary range for this position is $42 to $55 per hour. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position typically performs possibly 2/3 of work in an office environment and 1/3 in the field with travel required. Field work and preparation requires lifting over 25 pounds of equipment, traversing uneven terrain during site visits, and driving to locations three hours or more away from San Luis Obispo/Santa Maria, CA.

An estimated 1/3 of work is principally performed in the field, with the remainder of work in an office environment, which would likely be a hybrid of at home and in the Tetra Tech offices. Travel for meetings and site visits are required. Site visits may be to industrial facilities, construction sites, offices, open land/rough terrain, and to water bodies.
Required Language & Communication Skills:
• Must be fluent in the English language, writing and speaking.
• Tasks entail verbal presentations and trainings.
Required Mathematical Skills:
• A strong foundation in mathematics is necessary to effectively analyze data, model complex environmental systems, and make informed decisions about environmental issues. This includes basic arithmetic, algebra, and principles of environmental statistics.
Required Other Skills:
• Fluency with computer software, including knowledge of primary Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, TEAMS, and Outlook).
• Fluency with Adobe Acrobat software
• Fluency with Apple software (iPhone, iPad).
