The opportunity
Australia Awards PNG (AAPNG) supports Papua New Guinea's development through education, knowledge transfer, institutional capacity building, and enduring relationships between PNG and Australia. The program strengthens people-to-people links, supports high-quality education, and fosters partnerships that build the capability of PNG's tertiary education sector.
Reporting to the Manager, MERL, the MERL Coordinator supports monitoring, evaluation, research and learning across Australia Awards Papua New Guinea. The role coordinates data collection, analysis and reporting to ensure accurate, reliable information for performance monitoring, learning and continuous improvement. It also supports the MERL Framework and Plan through monitoring activities, data system maintenance, research, case studies and knowledge products. Working across program teams, the Coordinator strengthens data quality and contributes to evidence-based program delivery and achievement of program outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Support implementation and continuous improvement of the AAPNG MERL Framework and Plan, with a strong GEDSI focus.
- Maintain accurate MERL systems and coordinate monitoring, surveys, and baseline, progress and endline data collection.
- Analyse quantitative and qualitative data to prepare reports, dashboards, case studies, and other evidence products.
- Support research, evaluation and learning activities, including stakeholder engagement, documentation of findings, and knowledge sharing.
- Provide guidance to program teams on MERL tools, indicator monitoring, reporting requirements, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to broader program delivery, stakeholder relationships, GEDSI outcomes, and public diplomacy through alumni and awardee success stories.
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualification in a related field; postgraduate qualifications in MERL, international development or a related discipline highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in monitoring, evaluation and reporting, ideally in an international development context.
- Strong skills in quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting.
- Proven ability to prepare high-quality reports, briefing notes, case studies and other knowledge products.
- Excellent organisation, time management and attention to detail, with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong Microsoft 365 and data management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
