Marine Technician / Oceanographer

Qualifications:

Educational and Eligibility requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in engineering (electrical or mechanical) hydrography, or oceanographic instrumentation fields
• Minimum of 1 year of experience with oceanographic instrumentation and the integration of instrumentation with data loggers and telemetry systems
• Working knowledge in marine construction, survey, or dredging helpful
• Have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
• Eligibility for a passport and TWIC card.
• English fluency and report writing.
• A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Required Capabilities

• Working knowledge in the integration of oceanographic sensors with data loggers and data telemetry systems
• Ability to install and operate oceanographic instrumentation, including ADCPs, water quality sensors, wave sensors, and meteorological sensor packages.
• Working knowledge of electrical systems, including serial data communication and networking.
• Competence with Microsoft Office applications, Excel and Word; basic IT networking skills.
• Working knowledge of low-voltage DC systems.
• Experience with solar charging systems.
• Experience with data telemetry systems including cellular, radio and satellite.
• Must be comfortable working on vessels at sea.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Be technically inclined to work with various instrumentation
• Self-motivated and able to work independently and within a team environment.
• Must be able to adjust readily to change and make decisions independently.

Desirable Skills

• Strong communication skills and experience in client interactions
• Familiarity with scientific and/or environmental data
• Time series data QA/QC and processing
• Computer programming in Matlab, Python, VB
•  Experience with and a working knowledge of:
  • GIS in ESRI’s Arc Desktop
  • Hypack Navigation Software
  • CAD
