The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a Junior Pavements Engineer to our Asset Management team based in Vancouver, BC.

The position will provide exposure to a broad range of pavements engineering services which include pavement design and evaluation of both flexible and rigid pavement systems; development of maintenance, preservation and rehabilitation project designs; mechanistic pavement design; materials and construction specifications; forensic studies and investigations; pavement management systems, life cycle cost analysis and program development; and research and development.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 per year. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.

 

Your Role:

  • Conducting investigations and developing engineering solutions to pavement and construction materials testing issues. The focus will be on pavements and pavement-related issues, but duties could extend to identifying other aspects of roadway and pavement design and construction such as subgrade performance issues, embankment construction, seasonal construction difficulties, etc.
  • Conducting field assessment and remedial recommendations of pavement and subgrade related distresses. Assessments could be either for new construction or as part of a rehabilitation project.
  • Preparing technical letters and reports and participate in proposal development.
  • Providing pavement design input to geotechnical reports .
  • Liaising with all discipline team members, sub consultants, clients, and agencies.
  • Planning projects, developing accurate scopes of work, cost estimates, project plans, schedules and deliverables to execute high quality projects on time and on budget.
  • Creating project plans and implementing sub-consultant and sub-contractor agreements.
  • Executing projects in compliance with Tetra Tech’s Quality Management System procedures.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil, Geotechnical or other related Engineering.\\
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong people skills and an ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Travel will be required in this position.  Candidates must be prepared to undertake field assignments.  
  • Must be physically capable of performing the required field duties.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent).
  • Eligible for registration as an Engineer-In-Training.

 

Considered an asset:

  • Strong all-round academic knowledge of civil engineering principles 
  • Experience with GIS (ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS). 
  • Experience in pavement design, pavement construction, and/or non-destructive data collection (FWD, GPR, pavement condition data etc).
  • Understanding of pavement condition data/metrics (IRI, distress, PCI, etc.).
  • Experience with QC/QA testing procedures, non-destructive pavement testing and analysis.
  • Familiarity with pavement management systems is considered an asset
  • Experience with pavement engineering design software will be an advantage, for example AASHTO Pavement ME Design.
