Junior Pavement Management Engineer

Tetra Tech is adding a Junior Pavement Management Engineer to our Asset Management team based Vancouver, BC.
This entry‑level role involves analyzing pavement condition and performance data, maintaining pavement databases/GIS datasets, and supporting design and modelling under senior engineer supervision. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering (or similar), strong analytical and Excel/database skills, and an eagerness to learn pavement management systems. The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $90,000 per year. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
Your Role:
- Work closely with our project teams to provide a high level of service to our clients.
- Work with our project managers and asset management team to contribute to project setup and execution, including engineering support on projects in transportation infrastructure asset management.
- Initially supporting project-related field work and data acquisition activities.
- Review and analyze transportation corridor infrastructure data, such as pavement distress data and roughness data, collected from our LiDAR and 3D roadway laser measurement technologies.
- Conduct pavement structural analysis using Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) data.
- Perform spatial and tabular data compilation, QA/QC, analysis and presentation of asset inventory and condition datasets in a variety of formats (i.e. Excel, Access, and SQL databases).
- Work with various asset management software and in-house developed applications for data entry, condition modelling and program development.
- Use GIS to verify location referencing and present analysis results.
Communicate findings clearly in both technical and non-technical terms, including support for client presentations. - Project delivery, including report preparation.
- Proposal writing.
- Show resourcefulness in identifying and solving complex problems, modifying plans as conditions change, and developing recommendations for improvements.
- Demonstrate an aptitude and ability for project management, project delivery, and business development.
- Show willingness to quickly learn and adapt new methodologies or processes for our applications in the field of asset management.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness. - Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.

Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (Pavement, Transportation, Materials, Infrastructure Management).
- 0-4 years of experience in pavement engineering, pavement management, asset management, or transportation infrastructure analytics; all experience levels will be considered for this position.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to provide high-quality deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working with data and databases, including comfortable working with databases in Microsoft office (Excel, Access).
Eligible for enrollment as an E.I.T with EGBC.
Considered an asset:
- Experience with GIS (ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Experience in pavement design, pavement construction, and/or non-destructive data collection (FWD, GPR, automated data collection).
- Understanding of pavement condition data/metrics (IRI, distress, PCI, etc.) and performance modeling.
- Experience with SQL databases, Python, machine learning/AI integration, or data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).
- Knowledge of asset condition predictive modelling tools or experience working with asset management software (such as AIM, dTIMS, RoadMatrix, PAVER, Cartegraph, AgileAssets, Bentley, etc.)
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills with a focus on quality and consistency.
- Experience or familiarity with risk and reliability-based engineering.
- Experience or familiarity with engineering economics (Life Cycle Cost Analysis).
