Junior Geotechnical Engineer or Technician
The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding an Junior Geotechnical Engineer or Technician to join our Arctic Engineering team based in Edmonton, AB.
This full-time rotational field position offers the opportunity to support projects at diamond and metal mines, oil and gas sites, and government infrastructure facilities. The rotation will take place in Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and Yukon from October 2026 through March 2027.

The salary range for this position is $35.00 to $50.00 per hour. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
Your Role:
- Conducting construction monitoring on a rotation basis (likely 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off) with northern construction partners to ensure the job meets the client’s needs.
- Broad-based geotechnical skill development to address the life-cycle needs of a major Northern project: design, construction, and closure.
- Working not just in the permafrost geotechnical realm but gaining a working understanding of other areas to function effectively with our departments in transportation, mining, and environmental.
- Planning, conducting, and supervising permafrost-region geotechnical investigations with the goal of implementing new designs or preserving existing structures that are threatened by permafrost degradation.
- Evaluating conditions for the design of foundations, retaining structures, and earth structures, usually with a special focus on thermal characteristics.
- Analyzing field data and preparing detailed engineering reports and recommendations.
- Communicating with clients, sub-consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
- Travel will be required in this position. Candidates must be prepared to undertake field assignments in Northern Canada, including Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and the Yukon.
- Must be physically capable of performing the required field duties.
- Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent).
- Eligible for registration as an APEGA Engineer-In-Training or C.E.T.
