The program

Australia Awards PNG supports Papua New Guinea’s development by strengthening education, knowledge transfer, and institutional capacity, while building enduring Australia–PNG relationships. The program delivers high-quality education, fosters institution-to-institution partnerships, and develops the next generation of PNG leaders.

 
The role

Reporting to the Deputy Director, Program Coordination and Outcomes, The Interview Panelist will provide expert advice and assessment of shortlisted applicants through participation on an interview panel. The Interview Panelist must be available to work in Port Moresby from 12 – 22 July as well as limited remote inputs before and after this period.


Key responsibilities

  • Attend a selection briefing to prepare for the Intake 2027 selection process and interviews.
  • Assess shortlisted applicants against the confirmed selection criteria and GoPNG/GoA priorities.
  • Take part in interviews, score candidates against criteria, and record evidence‑based assessments.
  • Contribute to final recommendations for Australia Awards Scholarship selections.
  • Suggest improvements to the assessment and panel process and undertake other reasonable duties as requested.

 
Selection criteria

  • Senior professional expertise in higher education, scholarship administration, or academic assessment.
  • Deep knowledge of the Australian higher education system, admissions and postgraduate pathways.
  • Proven panel/selection experience with objective scoring, evidence‑based assessments and clear feedback.
  • Strong analytical judgement to assess applications and interview responses and support consensus decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, professional conduct, and strict confidentiality.
