Tetra Tech is adding an Intermediate Piping Stress Engineer to our Mechanical Engineering  team based in Calgary, AB.

Your Role:

  • Perform static and dynamic stress analysis of piping systems for facilities including refineries, pipelines, power generation, and slurry transportation systems.
  • Complete piping flexibility assessments and pipe support design/specification, including guides, spring hangers, snubbers, anchors, and expansion joints.
  • Perform pipeline sizing, wall thickness calculations, and engineering assessments including hot tap evaluations.
  • Prepare and review piping stress deliverables including calculations, specifications, technical reports, and regulatory submission packages.
  • Design and specify piping components and pipe support systems in accordance with project and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams to support successful project execution and resolve technical issues.
  • Support project scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives for assigned work.
  • Participate in client meetings, site visits, field reviews, and project coordination activities as required.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

     

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in Alberta and/or British Columbia, or eligible for registration.
  • 5+ years of experience in piping stress analysis and pipeline/piping system design within an industrial consulting engineering environment.
  • Proficiency with piping stress analysis software such as CAESAR II and/or AutoPIPE.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards including ASME, CSA, API, ASTM, and NFPA.
  • Experience preparing registration packages for piping and pressure vessel systems for provincial safety authorities, including ABSA and/or BCSA.
  • Experience performing hot tap calculations for piping, tanks, and pressure vessels.
  • Experience with pressure vessel design and evaluation software such as PV Elite and CodeCalc is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) software such as NozzlePRO or FE-Pipe is considered an asset.
  • Practical knowledge of piping systems, supports, installation, and field execution activities.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with both clients and internal project teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
