The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a Mechanical Engineer to our Mechanical team based in Thunder Bay, ON. This position is open to remote candidates within Canada on a contractor casual/hourly basis. However, only candidates located in or willing to relocate to Thunder Bay will be considered for full-time employment.

Your Role:

  • Mechanically lead projects of appropriate size and complexity to develop safe, efficient mechanical designs and specifications compliant with industry codes and standards.
  • Work on mining and industrial process improvements, plant layouts, process equipment selections and integration, fluid and slurry pumping and piping, material handling, dust collection, HVAC, and fuel storage systems to name a few.
  • Participate in all project phases including scoping, proposals, feasibility, detailed design, construction support, commissioning, field engineering, and business development.
  • Prepare and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Collaborate with multidiscipline teams and mentor junior engineers and technical staff to develop solutions based on your engineering calculations and simulations.
  • Support procurement, construction, and site activities including package development, vendor coordination and bid reviews.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development efforts.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Post PEO registration experience - 1 to 4 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, preferably in mining, or related sectors.
  • Familiarity with engineering analysis software.
  • Experience with industrial plant layout, pumping and piping systems, conveyors, HVAC, and material handling equipment.
  • Proficient/Expert with MS Office Suite including Teams, and MS Excel.
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software such as Plant 3D, AutoCAD, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks, Revit, CADWorx, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar.
  • Engineering design software experience with AFT Fathom, Belt Stat, HAP, or similar software.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed (periodic visits to Thunder Bay office if remote).
