Industrial Hygiene Scientist
The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech, Inc. is seeking a hands-on Industrial Hygiene / Environmental Scientist within the Ann Arbor and greater Detroit area. As an IH Scientist, you will assist a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to collect real time field data at sites throughout the region. 2-5 years of experience preferred in asbestos, lead, indoor air quality (IAQ), and environmental related projects, and current certifications as an asbestos inspector, asbestos contractor/supervisor, lead inspector or lead risk assessor, NIOSH 582 or equivalent certification, and HAZWOPER are desired but not required. Construction/building systems background experience preferred. A current driver’s license with clear driving record within company standards is required. This position may have hybrid working opportunities, but the candidate must reside within 100 miles of the Ann Arbor, MI office

Essential Job Functions:
This position requires field and office activities for asbestos inspections, lead-based paint inspections, IAQ assessments, abatement oversight, monitoring, and environmental projects primarily at project sites throughout the Great Lakes region.
The field requirements will include approximately 25-50% or more of travel/fieldwork.
This position may require occasional night and weekend travel/work.
Work activities will include conducting asbestos and lead-based paint inspections, overseeing asbestos abatement projects, collecting air samples, and preparing technical reports.
The ideal candidate will also be trained in environmental compliance activities.
Office duties will include proposals, creating and reviewing technical documents for accuracy and grammar written by field technicians, job safety analysis, work plan development, remediation design, data evaluation, and reporting.
Tasks associated with reporting may include the preparation of text, tables, charts, and figures.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
BS degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field is required.
2-5 years of experience.
Applicant must have excellent technical abilities, communication and organization skills, and technical writing skills.
Ability to traverse client project site carrying a 30lb pack/equipment, over uneven ground, in all weather conditions.
Familiarity with the MS Office Suit
- A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications:
State of Michigan Asbestos Inspector License preferred.
OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred.
Construction/building systems background experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work at heights over 20-feet above the ground and be capable of entering confined spaces.
Ability to traverse client project site carrying a 30lb pack/equipment, over uneven ground, in all weather conditions (weather, altitude, terrain, noise, heights, confined spaces, etc.). This can include being on your feet all day, remaining stationery, bending, lifting, and sitting for surveying and other field activities.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
Field work will include work to be performed outside, as a result will include working frequently in various environmental factors (weather, altitude, terrain, noise, heights, confined spaces, etc.). This can include being on your feet all day, remaining stationery, bending, lifting, and sitting for surveying and other field activities.
This position may have hybrid working opportunities, but the candidate must reside within 100 miles of the Ann Arbor, MI office. This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company’s discretion.
Additional Information:
Full-time, Monday through Friday work schedule (40 hours). Occasionally, extended hours may be required based on project and/or client needs (including working overtime and weekends).
Work will be performed primarily in a field setting.
