The Opportunity

Tetra Tech is hiring a HR Generalist to support our Oil and Gas focused Engineering Consulting Team located in the Metro Denver Area.   

The HR Generalist is a key operational partner within Tetra Tech’s Human Resources team, serving as both the backbone of HR operations and a primary point of contact throughout the employee experience. This hands-on, high-accountability role is responsible for ensuring the seamless execution of daily HR functions, including Recruitment & Onboarding, benefits and leave administration, lifecycle management, HRIS administration, and compliance support.

Job Responsibilities: 

The HR Generalist will provide comprehensive HR support to employees and leaders across multiple office locations. This role will support a diverse employee population that includes Engineers, Designers, Project Managers, and Engineering support staff.

Primary responsibilities will be supporting teams located in our two largest offices located in Arvada and Englewood, Colorado while also providing support to smaller office locations in Montana and Wyoming, as well as remote employees located throughout other states.

Operating within a hybrid work environment, this position will be based in-office three days per week and remotely two days per week. In-office time will be split between our Arvada and Englewood locations to ensure strong partnership and visibility across both offices.

The HR Generalist reports directly to the HR Manager and maintains a collaborative, dotted-line relationship with senior leaders across the supported offices.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting a geographically dispersed workforce across multiple offices and states. Success in this role requires the ability to build trusted relationships, provide responsive and practical HR guidance, and deliver a consistent, positive employee experience across diverse teams and locations.

Recruitment & Onboarding:  Manage the full-cycle recruitment process for professional, technical, and field positions, partnering with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and develop effective sourcing strategies. Responsibilities include creating and posting job advertisements, sourcing and screening candidates, conducting interviews, facilitating offer development and negotiations, and managing pre-employment requirements through onboarding.

Employee Questions: Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions across benefits, leave, policies, and general HR inquiries — delivering timely, accurate, and empathetic support

HR Administration and Lifecycle changes: Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS system, manage employee documentation, and support administrative tasks related to payroll, benefits, I-9’s, and personnel files.  Administer leave requests (FMLA, Colorado FAMLI, & other State or Federal leave programs). 

Benefits: Liaise with corporate benefits team to address employee questions on the benefits programs, including health insurance, 401(k) plans, Employee Share Plan and other employee progarms. Assist with annual benefit enrollment questions. Help resolve benefit deduction discrepancies with corporate payroll and benefits team.

Drug & Alcohol Program Administration: Administer and maintain company Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs in compliance with applicable federal, state, client, and company requirements, including DOT, NON-DOT, and client-specific regulations where applicable. Coordinate pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing for employees and candidates.

Performance Management: Coordinate the annual performance review process. Partner with managers to provide coaching and support on performance management, including employee evaluations, goal setting, and feedback discussions.

Employee Relations:  With mentorship from the HR Manager, assist in addressing and resolving employee relations matters, facilitating conflict resolution, and supporting performance management processes. This role offers the opportunity to build and strengthen employee relations expertise through hands-on involvement in a wide range of workplace issues and people-focused initiatives.

Employee Engagement: Support employee engagement initiatives, monthly newsletter, employee recognition programs, events, and communication strategies to promote a strong company culture.

Qualifications:

  • 3-7 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, ideally with a broad range of HR responsibilities in a Coordinator, Generalist, or Advisor type role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification or desire to obtain certification is a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of local, state and federal HR laws and regulations (i.e. FMLA, ADA, EEOC).
  • Experience in Engineering, Consulting, Oil and Gas or related fields considered an asset
  • Experience with full cycle recruitment including using applicant tracking systems.  Experience with LinkedIn Recruiter License and passive candidate sourcing is preferred.
  • High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information. The ability to exercise poise, tactfulness, and diplomacy in sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Possess proactive, positive problem-solving skills and be an energetic, enthusiastic, collaborative team player.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or similar tools.
  • This position is also contingent on passing a background and drug and alcohol test before starting at our company.

Additional Position Information

Salary Range: $70,000 - $83,000 Annually.
