Health Physicist - Mid-Level
The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is looking for a mid-level, full-time Health Physicist based in Albuquerque, NM office. This position is not remote.
Position Summary
In support of the Response, Assessment, and Evaluation Services (RAES) program. The selected candidate will:
• Perform preliminary site assessments (PA), site inspections (SI), removal site evaluations (RSE) and expanded site inspections (ESI) on sites with radionuclide and non-radioactive hazardous substances.
• Operate and/or oversee field teams and be familiar with field equipment, including radiation instrumentation, for site assessment and radiation health surveys.
• MARSSIM Final Status Surveys.
• Recommend adaptations and modifications of scientific or engineering methods using independent judgment.

Essential Job Functions (Required)
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:
• Possess or have strong desire to learn and implement complex radiological monitoring techniques and site characterization studies.
• Preform field work in remote rugged terrain.
• Direct and implement Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM) 2 guidance.
Required Qualifications (Required)
• BS Engineering (nuclear, civil or environmental) or Health Physics
• Minimum of 6+ years of practical scientific or environmental engineering work experience in performing the responsibilities listed above; or 2 years’ practical experience if possessing master’s degree in relevant discipline.
• Knowledge, skills, experience: MARSSIM
Preferred Qualifications
It’s preferred that you have experience with:
• Radioactive contamination
• Experience or ability to learn calculations for radiation exposure limits for workers, safe work methods, and decontamination.
• Abandoned mine sites.
• Environmental remediation, mining and mine reclamation, uranium mining and mills, interaction with regulatory agencies, tribal lands, CERCLA sites.
• Construction or construction oversight.
• Working with Principal Threat Waste (PTW).
• Familiarity with naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) or technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive materials (TENORM) in uranium mining, oil and gas, or other industries.
In addition, it’s preferred you also have:
• Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Health Physics (CHP), or other similar certification
• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training
• Strong leadership skills and ability to lead small sampling teams without direct supervision.
• Strong written and oral communication skills desired.
• Experience using computer software including word processing, Minitab, ProUCL, spreadsheet, and database programs.
Work Environment/Environmental Factors (Required)
• This position is primarily office work, however, occasionally (35%) you will need to travel and perform fieldwork.
• The field work is in Arizona and New Mexico.
• A physical capacity for working outdoors, often in isolated remote areas.

• Work outdoors in all weather conditions, both hot and cold
• Walk on uneven terrain
• Work in variable outdoor environments, packing heavy equipment, and excavations using hand tools.
• Carry field equipment (35 to 40 pounds)
• Don personal protective gear as needed
• You must be able to drive on a regular basis.
• Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver’s license and safe driving record is required.
Additional Information (Required)
• Work schedule (days, hours): Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
• Night/weekend requirements: Periodic travel with overnight accommodations. Working nights and weekends may be required during field work activities.
• Work location: Albuquerque, NM office. A hybrid schedule is available.
• Travel requirements: 35%
