Tetra Tech SWW has an immediate opening for a temporary GIS Analyst to support our Diamond Bar, California office team. The position offers opportunities to work within a large international firm on many exciting projects with an environmental focus. Our business unit focuses primarily on planning, design, construction, permitting, regulatory compliance, and program implementation for solid waste management and recycling programs and projects. This position will provide opportunities to work on projects that focus on waste reduction, reuse, and recycling planning; circular economy, ocean plastic reduction, alternative technologies to landfilling, green renewable energy projects, food waste prevention and reduction, waste characterization, and solid waste facility and collection routing program development. The successful candidate will become part of a team that will execute projects locally and internationally that make a difference in the communities and the environment.
The selected candidate will provide support for a wide array of GIS data analysis, mapping, and related collection, creation, manipulation, visualization, and sharing of data for solid waste management and recycling projects. This position will require GIS support for clients including local, state, and federal agencies. AutoCAD, remote data collection, drone and satellite data capture, and graphic design capabilities are a plus. The pay scale for this position is $55-$75 an hour, based on qualifications and experience.
Your Role:
- Preparation of report figures; spatial database creation; spatial analysis; development of web-based applications
- General project mapping and data support
- Various mapping tasks that require a working knowledge and implementation of geographic principles, cartography, geoprocessing and spatial analysis, database management and Esri ArcGIS software technology
- Additional responsibilities could include responsibility for collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing data related to solid waste and recycling planning and support of project stakeholder coordination and outreach activities
- Work collaboratively with and under the supervision of a senior analyst, planner, or project manager
- Liaise with professionals on technical aspects of project and program development
- Assist in the preparation of various data collection applications, including solid waste management and recycling plans, including research and analysis of socio-economic, demographic, environmental, and natural hazard data
- Assist with production needs for internal and client deliverables
- Provide administrative support as needed
Qualifications:
- 5 plus years of relevant experience
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, or a related field
- GIS Certification from an accredited university
- Demonstrated understanding of GIS tools and concepts
- Basic project management concepts including client management and performing to the project scope and timeline under the guidance of the project manager
- Proficient using ESRI ArcGIS Online/Enterprise including familiarity with spatial and raster analysis tools
- Knowledgeable in coordinate systems and projections
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, StoryMaps, Survey123, Field Maps, Dashboards, and web map creation
- Working knowledge of standardized query language (SQL)
- Working knowledge of Python or a high-level, general-purpose programming language
- Proficient using MS Office software including Word and Excel
- Strong cartographic skills
- Ability to create quality maps using data from multiple platforms (REST API)
- Ability to analyze scientific, environmental, economic, demographic, and natural hazard data
- Proactively manage time and resources to maintain project schedules
- Strong team player displaying enthusiasm and a true commitment to personal and team growth and development
- Interest and ability to work in a collaborative manner functioning as an active participant
- Excellent written and verbal communication, and organizational skills
- Able to work independently and take direction
