Responsibilities:
The GIS Analyst will be responsible for assisting in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of GIS data. The successful candidate will serve on our Federal Master Planning Team, providing support and planning expertise for DoD and other Federal planning and asset management projects. Candidates must be knowledgeable with Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI's) software products. Duties include performing complex data analysis and creating various maps, visualizations, and analyses for incorporation into reports and/or presentations. Successful candidates will be familiar with common planning principles, such as form-based codes, traditional land use and zoning, and sustainable and resilient planning strategies.

Key Responsibilities
• The successful candidate will support the Federal Master Planning Team and leadership on complex planning studies, spatial data display, research and preparation of plans on resiliency, sustainability, compatible land use, physical, social & economic issues, and provide GIS technical support to all planning team members. Other duties may be assigned.
• Create databases, maps, and graphs using GIS software and related equipment for distribution.
• Develop GIS projects consisting of vector, raster, and tabular data.
• Create, update, and query the database, applying additional knowledge of spatial feature representations.
• Ability to define internal project schedules, graphic components, mapping/planning graphic elements, and writing assignments based on a Scope of Work.
• Design or assist in the design of page layouts, various charts/figures, brochures, posters, slide shows, and provide deliverables in a variety of media formats. Graphic design skills are preferred.
• Follow standard operating procedures and design criteria established by the Department.
• Conduct research to locate and obtain existing databases.
• Gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data and determine how best the information can be displayed using GIS.
• Compile geographic data from a variety of sources, including field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
• Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.
• Use principles of cartography to manipulate map layouts and associated symbology characteristics while integrating the use of correct coordinate systems, topography, data layers, north arrows, scale bars, and legends while creating aesthetically pleasing map designs.
• Analyze geographic relationships among varying types of data.

Qualifications:

Candidates need to be effective verbal and nonverbal communicators. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.) as well as experience with ArcGIS is required. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, preferred. Desire to acquire AICP and/or GISP Certification (when professional experience minimums have been satisfied) preferred, but not required. All candidates are required to have the ability to pass a security/background check and security clearance investigation.
• Knowledge of the philosophies, principals, practices & techniques of federal, urban, regional and/or facilities planning.
• Knowledge of principles, methodology, and practices of research, data collection, and interviews.
• Knowledge of planning disciplines and principles such as urban design, environmental and resiliency planning, military planning, economic development, or land use.
• Knowledge of Global Positioning System (GPS) for field data collection, measuring, mapping, drafting, data conversion, and data manipulation.
• Understanding of geodatabase structure and capabilities.
• Advanced English language skills, both written and verbal, to include technical writing/editing experience and a demonstrated ability to write, edit, and deliver planning content.
• Ability to create, read, analyze, and interpret technical material, financial reports, and legal documents.
• Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well-defined planning problems.
• Ability to support planning workshops remotely or in person.
• Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for facilitating relationships with elected/appointed officials or other decision-makers.
- Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.
- Must have 3-4 years of professional experience (internship experience is applicable);
- Candidates possessing a master’s degree in planning or a related field may substitute this for 2 years’ professional planning experience.
This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

This work is principally performed in an office environment; however, there are occasional requirements to visit office sites, which may involve working in an office or outdoors. Travel to conferences and client sites is expected to be less than 25% of the time.

• Ability to build or assist in stakeholder consensus and participate workshop/charrette activities.
Other Skills: Preferential consideration to candidates who are fluent in Adobe Creative Suite and/or have the ability to develop illustrative plans using a range of software or hand skills. Individual must have ample organizational skills, ability to manage time-critical situations to fulfill deadline requirements, and strong ability to work in team situations. Strong communication skills are essential.

The salary range for this position is $71,871- $98,822. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including, but not limited to geographic location, qualifications, licensures, certifications, experience, and other skills relevant to the needs of the business.
