The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a Geoscientist to our Solid Waste team based Remote, Canada.
 

We deliver engineering and geoscience services for the siting, design, operation, closure, and monitoring of specialized waste facilities — including landfills, organics (compost/AD), transfer stations, MRFs, waste‑to‑energy, and oilfield liquids processing. Our team blends practical design and operations with environmental and regulatory expertise to deliver compliant, cost‑effective solutions. We’re hiring a Geoscientist Professional to join our growing multidisciplinary waste‑management practice.

Your Role:

  • Compile and analyze complex geospatial, physical, and chemical data for waste‑facility site assessments.
  • Develop conceptual site models to support site evaluations and decision making.
  • Plan, oversee, and manage site investigation programs (leachate, groundwater, LFG) and field work.
  • Prepare and support regulatory approvals for new infrastructure, expansions, amendments, and renewals.
  • Evaluate and implement risk‑based solutions (risk management, remediation, closures) and ensure facility compliance.
  • Provide senior technical review and professional authentication of reports, memos, and engineering documents.
  • Prepare project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and plans to deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Mentor and coach project teams and promote a culture of quality in project delivery.
  • Maintain client and stakeholder relationships and participate in business development for the waste sector.
  • Develop and implement project‑specific health & safety documentation, conduct site safety inspections, and ensure compliance.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.
     


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering (minimum); Master’s in a waste‑management‑related field preferred.
  • 10–15 years progressive project execution and management experience; experience on medium–large projects (engineering fees > $500K). PMP is an asset.
  • Registered P.Eng. or P.Geo. and membership in a Canadian engineering/geoscience association; ability to act as Qualified Professional in select jurisdictions preferred.
  • Strong geoenvironmental expertise related to leachate, groundwater, landfill gas, soil vapour, and geochemistry.
  • Extensive site‑investigation experience (drilling, geological classification, monitoring‑well installation, hydraulic testing, and ASTM sampling protocols); construction/remediation experience an asset.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex geochemical and geospatial datasets and develop conceptual site models to support practical risk‑management and remediation solutions.
  • Familiarity with technical software (e.g., Surfer, HELP, MODFLOW, AquiferTest) and database/statistical tools is an asset.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, leadership, and mentoring skills; strong attention to data quality and project delivery.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal codes, guidelines, and regulatory approval processes for waste facilities preferred.
  • Valid provincial Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent); strong safety leadership and completion of safety training are assets.
  • Certifications or training from recognized solid‑waste organizations (e.g., SWANA, Compost Council of Canada) considered an asset.
