The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is looking for Engineering Interns and Entry-Level Engineers (EITs) who are interested in building their careers in water and wastewater engineering.
As part of our Atlanta team, you will work alongside experienced engineers on infrastructure projects that help communities safely treat, move, and manage water.
Depending on your interests and project assignments, you may gain experience across two key areas of water/wastewater engineering:
Treatment & Process
- Water treatment facilities
- Wastewater treatment facilities
- Process systems and equipment
- Facility improvements, rehabilitation, and upgrades
Linear & Conveyance
- Water distribution and wastewater collection systems
- Large- and small-diameter pipelines
- Force mains and gravity sewer systems
- Pump stations and related infrastructure
From planning and design through construction and rehabilitation, you will gain hands-on exposure to the full life cycle of municipal water and wastewater projects while developing the technical foundation for a career in the industry.

Position Summary
As a Water/Wastewater Engineering Intern or Entry-Level Engineer, you will support the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
You will work closely with engineers, designers, project managers, and other technical professionals while gaining exposure to both treatment/process facilities and linear infrastructure projects.
Assignments will vary based on project needs and your level of experience but may include engineering calculations, design development, preparation of drawings and specifications, technical research, data analysis, field investigations, and construction support.
This is an opportunity to apply what you have learned in the classroom to real-world engineering challenges while building practical experience within one of the industry's leading water practices.
Essential Functions
Support the planning and design of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
Assist with water and wastewater treatment plant design, rehabilitation, and improvement projects.
Support the design of pipelines, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, force mains, and pump stations.
Assist with engineering calculations, technical analyses, and design evaluations under the guidance of experienced engineers.
Support development of engineering drawings, plans, specifications, technical reports, and cost estimates.
Assist with design drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or other applicable engineering design software.
Review project data, record drawings, technical reports, and other engineering documentation.
Participate in site visits, field investigations, and data collection activities.
Assist with construction-phase services, including submittal review, field observations, documentation, and coordination.
Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other technical disciplines to support project delivery.
Maintain organized calculations, drawings, project files, and supporting technical documentation.
Participate in technical training, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
Required Qualifications
Currently pursuing or recent grad with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
Interest in obtaining an EIT certification
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
Ability and willingness to participate in occasional site visits and fieldwork.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous internship, co-op, research, academic project, or work experience related to water or wastewater engineering.
Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS, hydraulic modeling software, or similar engineering tools.
Experience preparing engineering drawings, calculations, reports, or technical documentation through coursework, internships, or project work.
Interest in gaining both office-based design experience and field/construction exposure.
Valid driver's license for positions requiring travel to project sites.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work at a computer for extended periods while preparing drawings, calculations, reports, and other project documentation.
Ability to communicate effectively with project teams in both office and field environments.
Ability to travel locally to project sites, client offices, or other Tetra Tech locations as project needs require.
Ability to perform occasional field activities that may involve walking or standing for extended periods.
Ability to navigate active construction sites or outdoor project environments when required.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment while performing field or construction-related activities.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors
Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment using a computer for extended periods, with a moderate noise level.
Depending on project assignments, interns and entry-level engineers may also perform work at construction sites, treatment facilities, pump stations, pipelines, stormwater facilities, or other municipal infrastructure locations.
Fieldwork may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, uneven terrain, construction activity, moderate to loud noise, dust, and other conditions typically associated with active infrastructure projects. Appropriate training and personal protective equipment will be provided when required.
Some local travel may be required for site visits, field investigations, meetings, or construction support activities.
