Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Director

Essential KSAs required (experience, skills, education, certification, etc.): 

Technical KSAs

• A master’s degree in gender studies, international development, or related degree.
• Minimum of 15 years serving as a gender advisor or in a similar role working on analytical, creative, strategy and implementation aspects
• Knowledge of energy, climate, and GESI trends and opportunities in developing countries.
• Strong executive presence and entrepreneurial spirit with a demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with partners and a diverse client base to deliver success, growth, and difficult change when necessary.
• Experience in institutionalizing and standard/process setting of gender equality and social inclusion technical practices and procedures.  
• Experience working diplomatically with government, donors, private sector organizations and stakeholders in the design and delivery of gender equality focused policy development, human resource development, training programs to support implementation of energy and climate change project activities. 
• Demonstrated ability and practical experience in successfully applying gender analysis frameworks and action plan development and implementation for a broad set of multilateral organizations, including USAID, MCC, IFC, and others  
• Demonstrated ability to identify capacity development needs regarding gender knowledge, attitudes, and practices and contribute to training initiatives to mainstream gender equality for multi-sector experts.
• Experience integrating gender into business models in the private sector including gender lens investing and creative investment vehicles, such as gender bonds.
• Experience in cross-cutting social inclusion integration at project and organizational levels, including gender-based violence, engaging men as allies, and intersectionality, including but limited to people with disabilities, sexual and gender orientation, age, ethnicity/ race, and beyond
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, identify and resolve problems and identify opportunities to improve systems and processes
• Proven track record of hiring, leading, managing and motivating highly- effective global teams from diverse backgrounds and skillsets
• Well-developed interpersonal, communication and listening skills to interact effectively, motivate and collaborate with others from diverse cultural backgrounds to achieve goals
• Fluency in English (reading, writing and presentation skills)

Valued but not required KSAs:

• Experience supporting developing countries to prepare and/or implement climate change-related strategies, policies and plans.
• Experience designing or leveraging next generation and emerging carbon markets. 
• Experience developing annual work plans, annual reports, budgets, and reporting on indicators. 
• Experience managing employees. 
• Experience working with subcontractors and leading teams.
• Oral and written communication skills in French or Spanish.

Line management responsibility: 

• Supervise, coach, and mentor technical gender equality and social inclusion staff, in addition to other project-specific staff as needed. 

Physical demands & work enviornment: 

• Require an estimated 30% of international travel to interact with clients, partners, and country stakeholders. 
• This position will report out of our office in Arlington, VA, however, there may be flexibility for the candidate to work remotely.
