We are seeking a Field Technician to conduct bias trials as part of ongoing environmental assessment of an operational wind farm. Applicants should reside within approximately 1.5 hours of Willcox, AZ.


Tetra Tech is looking for field tech to begin work in early March 2021 and to continue work for one (1) full year.  Applicants must be willing to commit to up to 12 site visits (3 visits per season) plus prep and data management consisting of approximately 130 hours for the year. The applicant would also serve as an emergency bac up to the searcher, if necessary.  Allotted hours include travel to and from the field location. The field tech would be responsible for their own housing throughout the study period. 



  • The field tech would be responsible for placing carcasses at random locations to test the ability for a searcher to find carcasses.
  • The position would require adhering to standardized protocols and using a tablet to collect data.
  • Previous field work in wildlife ecology with preference given to experience with avian and/or bat species.
  • Able to accurately identify local wildlife species by sight.


  • BS Science (Biology, Environmental Science, Wildlife Management, etc.) preferred. Individuals currently seeking degree and/or other enthusiastic workers are encouraged to apply.
  • Be willing to adhere to all personal safety requirements associated with working at an operating wind farm.
  • Comfortable in harsh weather conditions and rugged terrain (i.e., extreme heat or cold, high winds, all forms of precipitation).
  • Physically capable of doing extensive walking following transects.
  • Ability to utilize a compass, GPS unit, and tablet.
  • Licensed driver with ability to use own vehicle (4x4 or AWD strongly preferred).
  • Comfortable handling bird and small mammal carcasses under standard safety protocols.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a part of a team, while maintaining good communication with Tetra Tech staff.
  • Flexibility in scheduling due to changing field conditions.



Salary commensurate with experience.

Salary Range: $18.00 - $25.00 Hr.
