Field Biologist – Hawaiian Islands
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field (or equivalent experience), such as biological science, wildlife ecology, environmental science, or natural resources management.
- Minimum of 5 years of direct experience conducting fieldwork with wildlife and plant species in the Hawaiian Islands.
- Applied knowledge of ecological assessment, environmental impact analysis, environmental due diligence studies, natural/biological resources management, and habitat conservation planning a bonus.
- Experience with GPS equipment (Trimble or Garmin) and use of technology for data collection.
- Experience with GIS mapping software (ArcGIS or similar mapping program) is preferred.
- Ability to travel to field sites, and conduct fieldwork in remote locations and sometimes inclement weather and rugged terrain.
- Currently a resident of the State of Hawaii.
- Technical proficiency and demonstrated experience in the following areas are essential:
- identifying wildlife and conducting surveys (especially birds and bats).
- classifying and inventorying vegetation communities and habitat.
- researching and monitoring of wildlife species-habitat ecology.
- synthesizing and interpreting biological information.
- preparing technical reports.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Has ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 35 lbs. and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.
- Performs manual labor including excavation with shovels.
- Availability to work extended field rotations (sometimes 10-12 days at a time).
