Environmental Technician - (JAX)
The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is looking for a part-time, on-call Environmental Technician in the Jacksonville, Florida area.
Position Summary
Provide environmental air sampling support in the Jacksonville, Florida area and the collection of particulate samples from sites located around the city. The daily routine will involve sample collection, sample documentation, and transportation to a designated laboratory. The candidate will be trained in standard operating procedures and air sample equipment mechanical maintenance.
Sample collection is completed daily, 365 days a year, including weekends and holidays. The collection of samples occurs during an early morning 4-hour shift from 4:30am - 8:30am, during which the candidate will be on-call 365 days/year except when your requested days off are approved. While on-call, the candidate will be compensated for 2 hours or when called into the field the candidate will be compensated for the number of hours worked. Additional monthly group meetings and trainings are scheduled with advanced notice (may take place remotely or in person) during normal business hours.
This position allows the potential to support other projects and/or tasks that may arise in relation to other contracts outside of the listed above work.

Essential Job Functions (Required)

• Drive daily and collect air samples
• Document sample collections and delivery
• Communicate and coordinate efficiently within a team
• Perform minor electrical and mechanical repairs
Required Qualifications (Required)
• High school diploma or GED
• 0 – 2 years of experience
• Current driver's license
• Ability to perform tasks without a lot of oversight
• Ability to perform, or willingness to learn, minor electrical and mechanical repairs
• Able to teach others
• Able to quickly pick up additional skills as needed
• Live in the Jacksonville, Florida area
• Pass a criminal background check
• Must be highly motivated, punctual, reliable, customer focused, have excellent communication skills and work well in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
• B.A/B.S. in Environmental Science or related degree desirable.
• A Florida driver's license is preferred
• Mechanical and/or electrical maintenance experience
• Experience with particulate air sampling or other field sampling media
• Experience maintaining air sampling equipment
• Experience conducting environmental field work
Work Environment/Environmental Factors (Required)
• Sampling occurs daily in all weather conditions and extreme temperatures both hot and cold
• Sampling is conducted outdoors
• Tasks may include handling mechanical and electrical components
• Daily driving is required (~60 miles/day).
Physical Requirements (Required)

• Daily driving, walking, and climbing (ladder and/or stairs).
• Occasional lifting of equipment with team assistance (approx. 105 lbs.)
• Daily bending to perform sample collection.
• You must be able to drive on a regular basis.
• Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver’s license and safe driving record is required.
Additional Information (Required)
• Work schedule: On-call daily, 7 days/week (Monday – Sunday), 365 days/year, 4:30am – 8:30 am
• Meeting schedule (1-2 hours): Monthly during normal business hours
• Overtime requirements: Not required
• Night/weekend requirements: Sampling occurs on weekends and holidays
• Work locations: Remote field work, driving to sampling sites and laboratory

The salary for this position is $28.00 per hour, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
