Environmental Planner – Renewables (Intern) (Remote/Hybrid)

Tetra Tech is adding an Environmental Planner Intern to support our growing energy development practice in California, with a specific emphasis on renewable siting and permitting.

We are a collaborative, supportive, and entrepreneurial team that encourages professional growth and innovation. This temporary position will support a variety of energy-related projects and clients throughout California and can be based remotely or affiliated with our Irvine, CA office.

Your Role:
- Support Project Managers and project teams with supporting the development of site critical issues analyses, due diligence, and siting and routing studies.
- Support the development of environmental studies and resource analyses with subject matter experts.
- Support the preparation of land use and resource permit applications for federal, state, and local agencies.
- Assist in developing public outreach materials such as communication plans, stakeholder databases, fact sheets, newsletters, and websites.
- Support project scheduling, budgeting, and deliverable tracking.
- Coordinate project logistics and workflow, including tasking, internal reviews, submittals, and comment responses.
- Assist with project meetings, stakeholder engagement, and public outreach events.
- Conduct work in compliance with internal procedures, applicable legislation, and industry standards.
- Maintain professional development and awareness of environmental regulations and planning practices.
- Work safely at all times and report any health or safety concerns.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- 0-1 year of relevant experience performing similar tasks.
- Knowledge of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), including preparation of EIRs and related documentation.
- Familiarity with California permitting agencies, such as the California Energy Commission (CEC), Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), Coastal Commission, and Regional Water Quality Control Boards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented with excellent follow-through.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage schedules, and work effectively in a fast-paced consulting environment.
- Competence with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams); experience with MS Project and/or ArcGIS a plus.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Based in California or with significant California project experience.
- Familiarity with the CEQA, CEC, and/or CPUC permitting processes and environmental documents.
- 0-1 year of experience supporting environmental planning for renewable energy or infrastructure projects.

Compensation:
Pay commensurate with experience.
Hourly Rate: $25/hour
Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
