Summary:

Are you ready to get consulting experience? Tetra Tech is actively seeking a highly motivated Environmental Intern for employment in the Houston, Texas office. As an Environmental Intern, you will have the opportunity to work with experienced environmental scientists and geologists to assist in scientific and administrative tasks, including field data collection, data analysis, and report preparation. To be successful in this role, you should have a willingness to learn new tasks, strong attention to detail, and excellent communication and organizational skills. Your Role:

  • Support ongoing environmental permitting and compliance projects.
  • Participate in wetland delineations, wildlife and plant surveys, and various biological fieldwork activities.
  • Document research and field investigations, including surveys and data collection.
  • Contribute to the development and writing of reports and environmental permitting documentation.
  • Collect and enter data for evaluation by senior project staff.
  • Assist with report production and file management activities.
  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
  • Conduct research for ongoing projects, including review of regulations and permits, work plans, or other documents.

Qualifications:

Skills in the ideal candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Currently in pursuit, or recently obtained, a BS or MS in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., wildlife sciences, environmental science, or another scientific field).
    • Candidate must have successfully completed at least two years of study towards a degree (Juniors, Seniors, and recent grads).
    • Completion of four courses in a relevant scientific discipline described above.
    • GPA of 3.1 or higher.
  • Knowledge of data collection and tabulation in preparation of scientific documents.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite with experience in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access.
  • Ability to format and produce reports as well as the ability to maintain file management.
  • Attention to detail is required.
  • Enthusiasm, resourcefulness, and a positive attitude.
  • The successful candidate is able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal format and make evaluated decisions.
  • The successful candidate will work as a problem solver, will have an interest and ability to work in a collaborative manner, and will have the flexibility to adapt to changing situations.
  • Must be able to manage time well and work on tasks as part of a larger project team.
  • Experience in GIS is beneficial.
  • A strong drive to succeed and professional approach to work are required.

  • In addition to English, fluency in other languages will be considered a plus.
  • Candidate should be self-motivated and able to take directions.
  • Candidate must be able to walk large project sites and must be physically able to carry up to 35 pounds of equipment (such as sampling tools, GPS unit, field screening equipment and cameras) during field work.
  • Field activities take place in a variety of weather conditions, and can occur in remote locations and include areas of uneven terrain or occur during harsh weather.
  • Field sampling and monitoring may include various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil gas, and air).
  • Candidate must be able to sit at a desk / computer in an office environment for office-based tasks.
  • A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
