Environmental Compliance Lead – Solar Construction

The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding an experienced Environmental Compliance Lead to support a solar facility under construction near Columbus, Montana. This position will serve as the project owner’s third-party environmental compliance representative and will focus on ensuring compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements throughout construction.

This is an on-call, on-site position supporting the active construction schedule. During active construction, the anticipated work schedule is approximately 8 hours per day, 6 days per week, from approximately March 1 through December 15. The project anticipates a seasonal winter shutdown from approximately December 15 through March 1.

Depending on project needs and business requirements, there may be an opportunity for continued or full-time employment following the seasonal shutdown.

A rental truck will be provided for project-related use.

Essential Job Functions:

• Verify compliance with applicable regulatory permits, approvals, and environmental requirements.
• Serve as the project owner’s on-site environmental compliance representative and primary environmental point of contact.
• Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly on-site monitoring and inspections to document compliance and track corrective actions.
• Audit contractor inspections and environmental compliance records.
• Prepare and maintain inspection reports, field documentation, and other project records.
• Provide regular communication and reporting to client staff.
• Assist with environmental incident response and follow-up activities.
• Communicate effectively with construction contractors, client staff, and project teams.
• Complete accurate field data collection forms, reports, and compliance documentation.
• Utilize GPS units and other field equipment to collect and track site data.
• Maintain compliance with health and safety protocols in remote and active construction environments.
• Work independently in the field while maintaining regular communication with office-based project and client staff.
• Conduct activities in accordance with internal procedures, applicable regulations, and industry standards.
• Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
• Work safely at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Soils, or a related field preferred, but not required.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in environmental compliance.
• Experience conducting and auditing NPDES stormwater inspections and SPCC audits.
• Proficiency using GPS units and field data collection tools.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with construction teams, clients, and agency staff.
• Ability to work independently in remote field environments.
• Willingness and ability to adhere to all health and safety requirements in rural and isolated work environments.
• Ability to work in harsh weather conditions and rugged terrain.
• Flexibility in scheduling due to changing field and construction conditions.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated environmental compliance experience on energy construction projects, including renewable energy, transmission, or oil and gas projects.
• Montana DEQ SWPPP Administrator certification, or ability to obtain.
• Experience or knowledge related to soil science, restoration ecology, wildlife, or botany.

Work Schedule & Environment:

• This is an on-call position supporting an active solar construction project near Columbus, Montana.
• Work will be performed primarily on-site in an active construction environment.
• During active construction, the anticipated schedule is approximately 8 hours per day, 6 days per week.
• The active construction season is anticipated to run approximately March 1 through December 15.
• A seasonal shutdown is anticipated from approximately December 15 through March 1.
• Work schedules and field demands may vary based on construction activities, weather, and project needs.
• Continued employment or transition to a full-time position may be considered based on project needs and business requirements.
• A rental truck will be provided for project-related use.

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $28.00-$45.00 hourly
