The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist with experience in environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, natural resources, and protected species. The successful candidate will support field investigations and technical reporting related to habitat assessments, plant identification, wetland delineations, jurisdictional determinations, and wildlife surveys. This role requires the ability to clearly convey technical findings through high-quality environmental analysis and written documentation that complies with applicable regulatory requirements.

 

Projects are primarily located in the Southeastern U.S. and support a diverse portfolio of government and commercial clients.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Support environmental permitting and regulatory compliance efforts at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Conduct field assessments including wetland delineations, habitat assessments, wildlife surveys, media assessments, and plant identification
  • Assist with jurisdictional determinations and documentation
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and compliant technical reports and environmental documentation
  • Apply knowledge of environmental regulations, natural resources, and protected species
  • Utilize GPS/GIS and other field data-collection tools as required
  • Coordinate field activities, travel logistics, and equipment needs
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Adhere to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards
  • Follow project-specific health and safety plans and company Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, or a related field
  • 1–2 years of relevant professional experience combining field services and technical reporting
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with wetland ecology and delineations, wildlife habitat assessments, media assessments, and plant identification preferred
  • Federal, state, and local permitting experience with Southeastern U.S. agencies preferred
  • Proficiency with Windows-based software applications
  • Experience producing technical documents using a variety of computer software tools
  • Familiarity with GPS/GIS field data collection software preferred
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform fieldwork including walking, standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions
  • Ability to carry field equipment as needed

 

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

  • Combination of office-based and outdoor field environments
  • Fieldwork conducted in all weather conditions
  • Travel to project locations throughout the Southeastern U.S. required
